Huzzah!  Interbay is back with another track...that's 491 consecutive days dropping a never-before-heard track here on SoundCloud.  

In these descriptions, I often talk about having the best intentions of pursuing a particular inspiration but not quite hitting that target...and ending up, always, sounding like Interbay.  

This is another one of those times.  Still, I'm rather hoping you'll think it is great!  (...or, even The Great!)  

It all started when I was adding a secondary drum layer on a DIFFERENT track (because that's what we do at Phantom Laboratories West, we experiment over and over again until something ends up being whatever it is going to be) when I saw that there was a drumkit preset named "Voltaire."  

And I immediately made a wish AND IT CAME TRUE!  The drumkit DID intend to sound like the excellent synth-based post punk band Cabaret Voltaire--and I am a big fan of Cabaret Voltaire!  

I had written songs that I thought could be done by either Cremation Dance or DangerScience (post-punk bands that I fronted in the 80s and early 90s)...if only we had a proper synth player (in Cremation Dance, I tried to sing and play keyboards at the same time...and, frankly, I can only remember a couple of songs where that actually worked...and, for DangerScience, though we released an album that had lots of synths all over it, when we filled out the band to do live shows, we ended up being a guitar/bass/drums/singer combo...missing the synths and samplers sound that our album featured.) that were STRONGLY influenced by Cabaret Voltaire.  

I had thought about trying to aim for a CabVoltaire sound since beginning this Interbay project, but the target felt elusive, for whatever reason.  Like Interbay, many Cabaret Voltaire songs include spoken word samples, from various sources--but, especially after their early years, they would feature distinct vocals more frequently...and, as I've said, I'm not quite ready to commit my own vocals to Interbay tracks just yet.  Someday?  Absolutely!  Now?  Evidently not.  

...but the drumkit DID incorporate sounds that, at least to me, seemed to fit perfectly...so, I saved and closed out the other project and started a new one, in order to chase down an Interbay track that would show clear influence from Cabaret Voltaire.  

And, as anyone could have predicted, the influence is not necessarily obvious for anyone who hasn't read this far in the description to know what it is--it ends up soundiing...like Interbay.

But, I still dig the track...and there are certain things about this track that make it separate and distinct from other Interbay synthpop/post-punk tracks, things that I think are reflective of my love for Cabaret Voltaire.  

...if I try this again, I'll definitely want to sing on it myself...(but how could I say no to Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult?)
