For our second installment on Ghosttown Records we welcome London-based Eyeza to the label. The DJ and Producer, who also runs the Basilica imprint delivers a heavy three track EP, showcasing his versatile reflection of the contemporary club sound.

„Exist Physically“ opens with a pressure building drum pattern, shooting kicks and spacious claps, promising complete shutdown, while „IATTOB“ continues with a percussive thriving, undermined by a dark, yet lively tension enriched by hypnotic vocal chops. „Off a Pill“ follows its forgone energy and dives even deeper into a rhythmic and gritty hybrid soundscape to perfectly round up this journey at the verge of raw, grime-infused UK Techno, guaranteed to turn every dance floor into an ecstatic experience. Sequentia is a musician and promoter based in Tāmaki Makaurau, drawing influence from the bass-heavy culture of their Ōtautahi roots and their earlier experimental / improvisational projects. They host a monthly radio show on @95bfm called ‘Soundbleed’, and in 2020 they founded @relatedarticles - which functions as a monthly broadcast, a record label and a club night. In 2019 they co-established the biennial 3-day experimental music event 'Outlier Festival'.

Finding a rich seam in stark minimalism, soundsystem pressure and fractalised rhythm, Cassius Select is at the vanguard of contemporary broken beats and punishing low end.
 
This new Select transmission comes correct on Bruk, prodding at the same bold dance futurism already laid down by Siete Catorce and FFT, whilst sounding nothing like either of them. ‘Dread Percent’s swelling pads and dislocated MC shards are a foil for the ruff angles of ‘Fish Tek’. ‘Mess Mutual’ teases and stalks at a lower tempo and then twists up another set of bars over a bed of alien drone, laying the groundwork for the massive, grime-licked hooks of ‘Shake Like Me’.
 
Hinting at the anthemic while remaining steadfastly cool and deadly, Cassius Select’s mutant brand of club has the space and versatility to slip between scenes, doing damage wherever it lands.

The fifth transmission on BRUK comes from Chewlie, a breakthrough artist from Switzerland adept at sculpting tense, sharply defined atmospheres with eerie amounts of space and dreadful amounts of bass. Following up on her 2022 Creature LP for YUKU, this eight-track deep dive explores nervous hallways of dislocated rhythm with a UK soundsystem attitude and a subtle but striking approach to sound design.
 
In contrast with the strident melodic tones of Creature, Chewlie demonstrates her versatility as a sonic artist (alongside her established work as a graphic designer). Understated moodiness is the key here, resulting in powerful heads-down immersion heaters with stand-out moments to make the floor fall in line amidst meditative, patient pauses in between. In the field of leftfield dubwise club music, Chewlie’s voice strikes out with purpose and poise, slotting into the firmament of BRUK as another natural misfit in the many-sided bassweight landscape.
