There's increasing concern about violent acts from religious extremists around the world and particular concern about such acts being carried out on U.S. soil.  David Schanzer, Dir. of the Triangle Center on Terrorism and Homeland Security says many people see terrorists as angry individuals engaged in barbarous conduct. Schanzer argues such acts are really all about politics, not  bloodlust. "If we want to solve this kind of violence, we have to understand that," he says. Schanzer is Associate Professor of the Practice in the Sanford School of Public Policy. He spoke with Sanford's dean Kelly Brownell.

London’s population is at an all-time high, and continues to grow as fast as any period since the 19th century. This growth brings challenges of increasing pressures on housing, workspace, local services, infrastructure and heritage, but also brings opportunities to strengthen London’s position as one of the world’s greatest cities. In A City for All Londoners, Sadiq Khan set out his intention to write this new chapter in London’s development according to the principles of ‘good growth’. Following his speech, Sadiq Khan will join a panel who will respond to his vision. Sadiq Khan (@MayorofLondon) was elected as Mayor of London in May 2016. Prior to this, he was the MP for Tooting from 2005 to 2016. Sadiq was appointed Minister of State for Communities in 2008 and later became Minister of State for Transport, attending Cabinet. He was also Crossrail Minister. In 2010, Sadiq was appointed Shadow Lord Chancellor and in 2013 appointed Shadow Minister for London. In 2015 he led the Labour Party campaign in London in the General Election. Ricky Burdett (@BURDETTR) is Professor of Urban Studies at the LSE and Director of LSE Cities and the Urban Age Programme. Dating has never been more ambiguous than it is today. People sort of end up with each other without explicitly defining the nature of their relationship, level of commitment, or expectations for the future. What begins as hanging out, slides into spending the night, which slides into moving in together, and can even sometimes slide into marriage.

While keeping your romantic relationships ambiguous may seem to make them safer and less complicated, my guest today has conducted research that shows that's not necessarily the case. His name is Scott Stanley, he’s an author and professor of psychology at the University of Denver, and he specializes in studying commitment, co-habitating, and marriage.

Today on the show, Scott explains why dating has gotten more ambiguous during the past 20 years and why that has led people to slide into relationships instead of explicitly deciding and committing to them. He then highlights research that shows that, contrary to popular belief, co-habitating before marriage actually increases the chances of divorce when you do decide to get married and how living with someone makes it harder to break up with them, even when you realize you should.

We then get into what men can do to make dating less ambiguous and more decisive, and how being upfront about your intentions with women will make you more attractive, reduce drama down the road, and put you in a better position for a happy and fulfilling marriage. Scott then shares what you should do if you feel like you’ve slid into your relationship and what married couples can do to strengthen their marriage.
