Bruno is an Argentinian classically trained musician, producer, and composer based in Barcelona who writes for strings, piano, and electronics.  In 1998 he started as a producer for ad21, a personal platform and label. His Piano Textures series, started in 2007, is one of Sanfilippo’s most representative set of recordings, but he has also gained wider recognition in modern music – one of his piano compositions formed the basis for Canadian rapper Drake’s seminal hit, ‘Started From The Bottom’.

Piano Textures 5

URBS is an intriguing combination of ambient textures and location-based field recordings. Originally released on Compact Disc by Hypnos Recording (U.S, 2012), Sanfilippo now revisits the work years later to subtly re-imagine it using his current creative approach in the same Onix II Studio, in the mountains near Barcelona. The extra textures don’t just add interest to the more crafted sounds on the record; these ghostly audio presences are the primary forms within these blurry ethereal soundscapes. Here Bruno Sanfilippo has softened his sound palette into such subtle tones that it is pleasingly difficult to define what he calls "the boundary between [musical] sound and noise. Gentle and evocative, subtly textural and transporting – maybe you hate or adore it, but it is hardly indifferent to you. ad21

“Where is the defined boundary between sound and noise? Music usually doesn’t seem comfortable with ‘noise’ – due to the fragility of its aesthetic dimension, urban noise, in its context of common things, seems to be inexpressive. In this work, I incorporate the murmur of cities as one more element that dissolves with the faint sound of electronic sources, in this case, the manipulation of a Korg Radias synthesizer and a Lexicon processor.  The field recordings were obtained using an iPod Touch and recorded in churches, train stations, subway platforms, and the streets and bars of cities such as London, Berlin, Paris, Moscow, and New York. Bruno is a classically trained pianist, producer, and composer based in Barcelona who writes for strings, piano, and electronics. 
His first recordings were released in 1991, and in 1998 he started as a producer for ad21, a personal platform and label that has released the majority of his albums (2016’s The Poet was released by 1631 Recordings and Decca Publishing, while Unity came out on Russian label Dronarivm, in 2018). He has also collaborated on several projects with the labels 7K! Moderna Records, and Thesis. 

His Piano Textures series, started in 2007, is one of Sanfilippo’s most representative set of recordings, but he has also gained wider recognition in modern music –  one of his piano compositions formed the basis for Canadian rapper Drake’s seminal hit, ‘Started From The Bottom’.

In addition to recordings available on streaming platforms, Sanfilippo has a series of solo and collaborative albums that are available exclusively through Bandcamp, some of which were released by American labels between 2008 and 2012. 
Sanfilippo regularly performs at various live and multimedia events, and at festivals all over the world.
