I'm always interested in pushing classic computers to their limits.
This time I was given this opportunity by Paulo Simoes who programmed the Hex-Tracker 849a.

This song has been made on a pure ATARI TT, a machine released in 1990, with 4Mb of RAM, 8-bit sound quality, with 2 hardware digi-channels only.
The trick it - Hex gives 16 channels, using the Atari's 32Mhz Motorola CPU.
(Can make more but with a substantial sound quality reduction).

This song is a MOD format and has all its limitations (8 bit samples, only 64Kb for a sample, only 31 samples in the module, octaves limitation) but the only difference - are those 16 channels in the MOD (software mixing).

Recorded from real hardware (that originally has only 2 digi-channels, haha).

This song has been made entirely on Raspberry Pi 2. Also, it has been recorded directly from the machine. 
22 channels have been used. 

Generally, the R_Pi's sound is being generated by the Broadcom BCM2835 chip (for model '1' of the R_Pi) and by Broadcom BCM2836 chip (in model '2' of the R_Pi) - and in my case it's the BCM2836 chip - so it's resolved somewhat like in ZX Spectrum: the sound is being generated by CPU.  

It works with 11 bit quality. It's not an actual DAC, it is a digital PWM module (gives a 'pulse width modulated' signal) working with frequency around 40MHz and it is low-pass-filtered. 

The funny thing is, I also rendered the song directly into harddisk and compared it to the version recorded from real R_Pi: and I deleted the rendered file to hell, haha. The original Pi sound is warm'n'soft; doesn't remind thousands of razors. 

Some people say R_Pi isn't good for music. 
They are WRONG.

★ This is a rendition of the song “Daisy Bell” using vocals generated by DECTalk 5.0 for Windows. It is a different version of the singing text-to-speech used in Moonbase Alpha (aeiou aeiou John Madden ebrbrbrbr) and an older version of Stephen Hawking’s iconic computerized voice. The generated singing voice is not edited except to lower the pitch by 50 cents and stretch the time to exactly 200BPM.
