Demons at the Door

On a Whim is a split EP between Pacific Northwest singer-songwriters, Alec Trusty and Bryant Alama. The album features brooding, introspective lyrical content, sparkling guitars, and steady rolling roots-rock. The joint effort is a bookend to a long musical collaboration between Alama and Trusty, and a move in new directions, artistically for both. 

Recorded semi-live by Matt Thomson at Hallowed Halls in Portland, Oregon, the album features Matt Wiles on drums and Bill Jenak on bass. The EP was mixed and mastered by Matt Thomson at Ivy League Recording.

On a Whim covers a range of fairly heavy emotional territory. Overarching themes include disenchantment, apathy, squandered youth, self-indulgence, anxiety, depression, and death. The lyrics are reflections of how both the artists were feeling at the time they were written, as well as reactions to the current socio-political environment in the U.S. The swirling guitars, infectious melodies, and steady rhythms work to express those heavy feelings in a raw, but easy way.
