"Vessel" is the latest release from the genre-hopping creator, William Florelle in collaboration with Groovence, the esteemed French label that houses Cody Currie, Moonee, Kassian, Tour Maubourg, Kevin Over, and more on its repertoire.  

The release explores a new flavour of deep house/broken beat-infused dance music. Both tracks are led by the voice of William Florelle and *Vessel (Side to Side)*, features the entrancing spoken word of Shama Joseph.

In form with the theme of William Florelle’s lyricism, *Vessel* is a call to express and be oneself, especially on the dance floor - ’(you’ve) got all the answers, don’t hide yourself, don’t hide your bubble’. *Sometimes*, on the other hand, is pensive, flowing in unison with its wound-down but very vibey beat.

On remix duties, friend and collaborator, [Beringei](https://www.instagram.com/beringei/), joins to provide an interpretation of *Vessel*. Rethinking the chords and flipping the beat, [Roy Vision](https://www.instagram.com/roy_vision/) joins to remix *Sometimes.*

Great music is often about chance meetings and impromptu creative sessions and so it is that Hell Yeah proudly serves up Sensory Blending, a new collaborative album from Italian collective Aura Safari and Finnish musician Jimi Tenor. The nine-track record arrives on 26th April 2024 and is a lush and luxurious fusion of jazz-funk styles.

This glorious record came about after Tenor was playing a Hell Yeah party at Tangram in Perugia. Aura Safari were local and, in some free time the day before the gig, everyone jumped in the studio together. They had never met before but soon found plenty of free-flowing common ground and the result of that one-off session is now served up on this vibrant new album that brims with musicality, indelible melodies and subtly uplifting vibrations.

Tenor has toured the world and previously collaborated with the likes of Japanese master Calm. He is a psychedelic space-jazz-funk king, skilled musician, composer and producer who, since the mid-nineties, has released more than 25 albums and 45 EPs. Aura Safari is made up of bass, synth, guitar and keys players Lorenzo Francioli, Ruggero Bonucci, Nicola Pitassio Andrea Moretti, Lorenzo Lavoratori, Daniele Melloni and Nicholas Iammatteo, and they are label regulars who served up their sublime Island Dreams album here last year.

Says Jimi, who enjoyed his time in Perugia and adds that "the studio session was 100% efficient. I showed up and we started to play. Almost all that was made was material that we could use for the album. I love to work fast. Quick brushstrokes. Finish! I was amazed at how intuitively the Aura Safari guys could come up with new parts for songs. I mentioned some feeling or approach and they seemed to find it just like that.”

'Bodily Synesthesia' is the seductive opener with steamy sax notes and gentle grooves that are topped by aloof vocal whispers. 'Lunar Wind' is another slow and steamy mix of jazzy keys and soulful vocal hooks, 'Bewitched By The Sea' is a more tropical and percussive number with majestic melodies and 'My Bluebell' picks up the pace with jazz-funk grooves and hustling chords. 'Last Waltz In Perugia' has freeform sax lines soaring over meticulous drums that ebb and flow and 'Gimlet' brings a playful, samba-tinged rhythm and sunny flute leads straight from South America. There's a laidback, carefree mood to 'It's Too Easy To Love You' while 'Your Magic Touch' is a dancey number that exudes melodic joy, and 'Indigo' closes in dramatic fashion with a conversational sax that sticks long in the memory.  

Sensory Blending is a seamless fusion of collaborative minds from Aura Safari and Jimi Tenor and it could well be performed live at some special select shows later in the year.

This is an interview I was very privileged to conduct and record with Les Bursill (OAM) (1945 – 2019) and Dean Kelly on 31 May 2013. Les and Dean spoke to me on the western bank of the Hacking River below Audley weir, Royal National Park. The interview was arranged to be about nuwi ("noo-wi") or nowi (“now-i") (also "nar-wi") but thanks to the generosity and passion of both men, they discussed a lot more than that. I intended the interview to be the first episode of a podcast series about wooden boats of Australia; the podcast however didn’t eventuate. This was the second time I’d conducted an interview and didn’t have any training; please excuse the roughness of some of my questions. 

Sadly Les passed away on 16 February 2019. His funeral service provided me with the insight that the huge generosity of time and knowledge he (and Dean) showed me back in 2013 was experienced by many other people who were also not known to him. It was also a strong reminder that I needed to get the fantastic content of this interview online.

Les and Dean – thank you immensely for the time and knowledge you shared with me in that special place, back in 2013.

About Dean Kelly:
I am Dean Kelly and identify as a South Coast NSW Saltwater Yuin, Walbunja, Dhurga, Gurandgi Cultural man through my father, and Western NSW Freshwater Stone Country Cultural Wailwan, Nypampai Man through my mother.  I was born in Sydney NSW on Gadigal Land in 1967.

I am member of the Botany Bay Aboriginal Community and am also accepted as belonging to the La Perouse Aboriginal Community. I am a Cultural Practitioner who enjoys sharing my knowledge of Aboriginal culture & heritage, which has been passed down through my family for countless generations.

I work as an Aboriginal Liaison Officer for NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service. My role is to create understanding between Aboriginal people, non-Aboriginal people and the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, and to also facilitate opportunities for Aboriginal people to reconnect with country, culture and to get involved in Park Management Activities.

My role also provides community with: Education Programs, Cultural Awareness, Access to Country and cultural experiences such as Cultural Leadership Camps and modified Cultural Camps.
