Ambrose was born out of inspired emotions after binge-watching the series, The Sinner, season 4. The storyline, the atmosphere, the cold, open-water surroundings, and the intense beauty of mystery, hope, and desperation gripped me. 

The lyrics are written almost from the narrative of the main character, Detective Ambrose (hence the song title), and its glacial and desolate feel was really inspired after travelling to Iceland in April, 2022.

Berlin is a song that was in fact written in Berlin, 2020, during renting an apartment out there for a couple of months. Here, I spent my days listening to a lot of Fenne Lily, Jay Som, and The War on Drugs in my headphones as I walked around the city streets exploring. 

However, lyrically, this song is inspired by my last casual-dating stint. The first verse describes the persons apartment/room that I became familiar with, from the cracks in the ceiling, to the mattress on the floor, to the streams of sunlight beaming through the wintergarten. Along with the music, the essence of the song foreshadows fragility and vulnerability with somebody who will always be a stranger, and the internal process of me coming to that realisation.

Indie-pop singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Bryony Williams shares her new single, 'Trip Me Up' out everywhere on 29 February. 'Trip Me Up' is a heavenly slice of glistening, nostalgia-tinted indie-pop and is the lead single from her 10-track debut album. Bryony's  first new music since her 2020 EP 'State I'm In'.

Originally inspired by the cult-classic film, The Virgin Suicides, Trip Me Up is a lyrical take on the romanticised heterosexual tropes found in those typical high school scenarios where the safety net of the prom party is met with the heartbreak happening on the football by the bleachers. I feel like Trip Me Up is a modern twist on all of that narrative and through a female lens which shows the frustrations and confusion that young love can encounter and endure, whilst simultaneously taking us on a journey of reclaiming a sense of self and power in this storyline.

For fans of Marika Hackman, Courtney Barnett and The Big Moon, Bryony's music blends elements of pop and indie music, with heavy doses of 90s rock influences. 

The premise of this song is about the mundane; the repetitiveness of living everyday in the same house, the same environment, the same neighbours you don't converse with, walking the dog, watching TV every evening, cooking dinner, going to work, repeat repeat repeat. 

The second verse hints at a glimmer of hope in both a cynical and comedic way. The lyrics are talking about the change in season when the sun decides to peak out for the first time in months (UK-weather, huh!) and everyone's attitude changes and seems programmed to flock to the local beer garden for a summer pint! The sun seems to wake everyone up and make everyone nice and jolly again, obviously, scientifically, that's true (thank you vitamin D!) But the summer attitude comes and goes again and back we are right at the beginning of the cycle of the mundane; the repetitiveness of living everyday in the same house, the same village, the same neighbours you don't converse with, walking the dog, watching TV in the evening, cooking dinner, going to work, repeat repeat repeat… You get the idea!

Inbetween Days

Indie-pop singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Bryony Williams shares her new single ‘The Party’, out everywhere on 14 May. It’s the latest track from her upcoming debut album which will be released in two parts this year, with the first part released on 13 June, ‘You Are Here - Part 1’

For fans of Marika Hackman, Courtney Barnett and The Big Moon, the Americana-tinged single once again showcases Bryony’s boundless talents as a songwriter and storyteller. Lyrically, ‘The Party’ is a metaphor for life. A self-confessed ‘free spirit’, Bryony wrote the track about her frustrations with the fact that we all appear to be living the same narratives, generation after generation, going through the same typical tropes. 

She says, “I get almost paralysed by this concept. The song documents my internal push and pull of living conventionally and/or living my truth, which isn’t to get a mortgage, isn’t to start a family, isn’t to work until retirement/death, but to instead “escape the day-to-day and start living”. 

I then get so far imagining this escapism; this way of life (travel, freedom, backpacking, living out of a van), but I am quickly pulled back into reality of having to reside in one place and work, and grow older. This all feeds into my worries of life moving way too fast and that within a blink, another day, another year has gone by. At this point, this song is almost a parody of all the above on a personal level because I seem to have this existential crisis most days!”

The Party

Bryony Williams shares her new single ‘You Are Here’, out everywhere on 26 September.

For fans of Marika Hackman, Laura Marling and Billie Marten, ‘You Are Here’ is a live acoustic track performed at her beloved producer’s recording studio attic hidden deep in the cul-de-sacs of Wolverhampton, UK. It is a heavenly recording of raw emotion and marks the fourth single from her upcoming debut album, scheduled for release February 2025.

Inspired by her journey on the Camino Del Norte, an 800km pilgrimage by foot, the song reflects the profound sense of inner peace she discovered with each step along the way.

This track represents the rockier side of Bryony's music and influences. The track is about her sense of 'fight or flight' mode when it comes to taking a leap of faith at important times in life, which involves plenty of mental struggle and destabilisation, and features the continued questioning of 'are you checking in? or are you checking out?'.
