Some Notes on Weekend in Toronto…

If you’re reading this, L O V E. Thank you for taking the time to engage with this chapter of my life, and adding it to one of yours. There’s an infinite number of things that you could be doing, but you’re here. For that, I’m grateful. Choice is quite a dilemma in our age.

Weekend in Toronto came about as an exercise – I wanted to see how quickly I could create a work, mainly using production that wasn’t my own. WIT was written in four days and recorded in 8 hours out in York. Shoutout to MH Studios and Harjeet (Pabla) - one hell of an engineer right there. Love to Countach – dude cooked up a beat after hearing me rap once on FaceTime (I wonder what out fourteen-year-old selves would think of where we’re at now…?) Love to (my cousin) Jerm for letting me hop on one of his tracks. We’ve never physically met, but we found out we both do music, because of the Internet – another win for these odd boxes. 

This work, like all of my projects really, is a facsimile of my stream of consciousness. Mmmm - maybe not a fax, as I think it’s impossible to copy the minutia of the mind in real time, but it’s a printed copy to some medium nonetheless. I was thinking about simulacrum, the homies, cyclical love affairs, and curated experiences. (These things only become apparent to me after I’ve recorded!!)

I want to say thank you to my Mom, who supports all of my dreams, no matter how ridiculous, as she encouraged me to go to Toronto in the first place. Love to Andrea and Demar for showing me the roads, to Susan and Mums for housing Aaron and I, and to Aniqa for listening to the thing after it was made and experiencing simulations with me in real time. Love to the ODC/SKYTOP fam for supporting me through this. Love to Rebecca for the stunning artwork! Love to Keenan and Vernon for lending their artistic visions. Um… love to everyone who’s listened and given me feedback! A SPECIAL thanks to Aparna Nancherla for clearing the sample on “lettre a un tournesol.” I really love her work, and "Welp" was really inspiring to me at the time, so that was amazing. 

There are so many people to mention and attention spans are short, but I love you all. No omission is purposeful, and none of this would be possible without anyone reading this.
