Biko [ @sint-bikolaas ], jeune digger néerlandais fanatique de sonorités digitales sud-africaines, fait un vrai travail de sauvegarde patrimoniale au travers de sa chaîne youtube. Sur les traces d'un certain DJ Okapi (derrière le label Afrosynth Records) il se dédie à exhumer les trésors musicaux de la nation arc-en-ciel et notamment de sa période post-apartheid. Habitué des sélections plutôt downtempo mettant à l'honneur les genres iconiques du bubblegum ou du kwaito, il délivre ici un set strictly house, old school et diablement énergisant.

The latest instalment of the Bside Podcast (ep #161) is hosted by a very exciting producer and talented DJ based in London: Alex Virgo 

His prolific music production and electrifying DJ sets have caught the attention of tech-house heavyweights Eats Everything and Patrick Topping: His tracks regularly featuring in their sets, and more recently being released on their labels ‘Edible’ and ‘Trick’. Alex Virgo has since began blazing his own trail with Pomme Frites records, a label full of exciting artists, original productions and some amazing remixes. 

So let’s sit back and take a ride through some of the music that inspires his own writing, and brings excitement to the danefloors of his DJ sets. Expect jazz infused house, thumping 4/4 beats, intricate build ups, and a dash of disco, all from the Bside of course.

Tijuana's disco top dogs <3 the two Señores responsible for throwing some of the most solid parties we've had the pleasure of being part of in Mexico. Coming from backgrounds of true musicianship, organic sounds clearly have a special place in their hearts, paying homage to the golden age foundations of dancefloor music when studio musicians inhabited recording studios. A lush selection of pre-MIDI wealth with some early synth and drum machine nuances skillfully mixed in this beautiful weekend kickstarter package.
Oro Negro is a duo formed by Das Falco and More Lotion ; musicians, DJs, designers, and producers from Tijuana. Active since 2014 with a selection leaning toward dance tracks produced between 1977 and 1993, they have managed to position themselves in the electronic music party circuit on both sides of Mexico's northern border. Co-Founders of Discoteca Seducción, residents of Marko Disko (2022), and also residents of the mythical Sunday Sunday party, Oro Negro are no strangers to a tasteful dancefloor. Tijuana Strong. 'By the early sixties, the song on the A-side was the 'hit' song that the record company wanted radio stations to play. The B-side would contain less radio friendly and less popular tracks. In our eyes the B-side is a true reflection of the producers taste in music, there is more personality on that side of the record'.
