Bside Incoming: Athlete Whippet

This time we invite an exciting Berlin based duo behind the Bside turntables to walk us through some of their most treasured records. With two releases on Toy Tonics, a record under past guests Rhythm Section, as well as showcasing music from artists such as Ross From Friends, Baltra and Seb Wildblood on their own Squareglass imprint, we are certainly excited to bring you an episode from such impeccable selectors: Athlete Whippet.

The duo met at London’s Goldsmiths, with a passion for music bringing them together. One now works at !K7, the other developing live sets for the likes of Priya Ragu, Berwyn, and Lapsley; their spare time is spent crafting incredible music with a live bass, guitar, piano, and some hardware synths and samples.

Their Bside selections pay tribute to their influences and musical connections; records on Tartelet, Rhythm Section and Toy Tonics, incredible artists like Max Graef, Paula Tape, Jitwam, and COEO all making the cut. Expect a reflection of their own artistic output which always straddles the line between dancefloor fun and soothing sounds.

An exploration into the the back-catalogues, the deepest depths, the darkest crevices of their collections. Returning with the spoils of this venture: their most cherished records and hidden gems, from the go-to club weapons to the rarely heard home-listening records, and everything in between.

'By the early sixties, the song on the A-side was the 'hit' song that the record company wanted radio stations to play. The B-side would contain less radio friendly and less popular tracks. In our eyes the B-side is a true reflection of the producers taste in music, there is more personality on that side of the record'.
