In this series we ask DJs who cannot join us for a live recording in Scotland to instead send a mix over the web. The internet is a marvellous thing, it's paired us up with guests from Brooklyn and New Orleans all the way to Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Moscow, even reaching as far as Brisbane and Seoul!

Ahead of her anticipated appearance at the KYSO X GODDEZZ ceremony at Venue Mot on Nov 10th 0023, dedicated relic finder and xcellent person MEG PAINE has captured the pure feeling of lightness with this radiant mix for our examination series. Throughout the transmission Meg effortlessly cycles through an array of ancient gems, ceremonial drumz & angelic vocals that lure the listener into an eternal elation state. Our very own discogs addict and all hands on deck man Sam Luke aka Skip Wooznam drops our latest Phonica Friends & Family mix. The mix is one for the deep diggers and chin strokers as well as the party goers and all nighters out there. Sam looks after alot of our online orders that go out worldwide as well as taking to the counter when we are in the height of it but this has not stopped him representing us at some of our big 20th birthday celebrations last year at the likes of Junction 2 and opening room 3 at Fabric. You can also catch Sam playing around London at Slipped Disc and Club Hiatus where he holds residencies.
Bringing his own taste and sound to our crew we are delighted to welcome him to the series. We had a brief chat with Sam about the mix and what he's got going on outside of these walls!

Here it is, ‘Bside Incoming’, our international podcast that showcases the flip side of our favourite DJs' record collections’ who unfortunately couldn’t be with us here in Scotland.

The first selector to transmit their tunes via Bside First Class Delivery is Hungarian DJ and producer -  Gnork. He’s been making a reputation for himself with a distinctive spacey breakbeat sound, and releasing some stunning tracks on some amazing labels such as Church, Unknown to Unknown, Magic Wire, not to mention his own label: Earth Plates.

Our 2nd instalment of Bside Incoming comes from Belfast Dj and Producer Bobby Analog! 

The Body Fusion head honcho is one of the most exciting talents in the Irish scene. Playing on the Boiler Room stage at last years AVA Festival, a stellar performance that helped boost his profile to where it is now.

We had Bobby in for a filmed Bside, which should have been episode 16. Sadly after a great set, some technical issues meant the recording was unusable. Thankfully Bobby, being the gentleman he is, offered to record one for us at home and send it to us for Episode 2 of Bside Incoming.

Bside incoming: Bobby Analog

Boy are we thrilled to bring you the latest instalment of Bside, this time incoming from Germany! This one is sent in by a true inspiration of ours - co-founder of Money $ex Records (alongside Max Graef - another favourite of the podcast), an exciting DJ, and an even more impressive producer ... Glenn Astro! 

Glenn Astro as been behind some truly beautiful musical projects, he is known for his creative and jazzier productions of house. If your unfamiliar with him, a great place to start would be 'Kilometer Disco', on the C-side of his album 'Throwback' where wonkey synths weave in and out of piano chords and saxophone solos. ‘Gemini’, the B2 track of his 2015 release ‘Hologram’, has long been a cherished peice of our Bside collection - a punchy house track full of funky melodies that are sure to tear up any dancefloor. 

This Bside mixtape is a taste of what makes Glenn Astro tick : a multi-genre journey of hypnotic and percussive rhythms. From relaxing ambiance to mesmerising bongos, smooth brass and soothing vocals, to downtempo electro and breakbeat, nu-jazz and reggae edits, all the way through to an energetic burst of pure DnB euphoria.

Watch out. Bside Incoming!! For the 7th instalment of the Incoming series we welcome REES.
Known for his technical versatility and expansive selection, REES has become a household name in DJ booths across the UK & Europe. With smooth mixing capabilities, he is able to span through many different genres with ease - from rattling techno to harmonious disco and house beats, his sets are equally vigorous and unique. 

As well as being an excellent disk jockey, REES has an impressive array of productions under his belt. Speaking with us, he was excited to tell of an upcoming release which he describes as “a breakbeat EP very different to anything I’ve put out before, with remixes from Matrixxman & A. Sagittariun.” Perhaps we’ll soon get a glimpse over on his show on Balamii radio which airs on the second Sunday of each month from 10am - 11am. We’ll be listening carefully.
On top of that he’s the founding father of Paradiso Records. Now it doesn’t take a genius to work out what “paradiso” translates into from Italian… that’s right – Paradise. As label head and hotly tipped producer in his own right REES elaborates, “the philosophy behind the name comes from our admiration of so many different styles of electronic music so we try to display and capture ‘everyone’s idea of music paradise’”. It is an endeavour that has been paying dividends since their birth in 2018, with the imprint regularly putting out top-quality dance music that can vary from gritty Electro to feel-good Disco infused House.

Paradiso are more than just a label too, with the initial idea being “to have a record label accompanied with a blog/magazine type online website where our fans could read up on our latest music, interviews, artist top 10 picks etc.”. They have a string of digital releases under their belt, however entering the physical market is also something high on the agenda for the young label. In the meantime the team have set up a “Paradiso Presents” party series that will see events pop-up across the UK. As REES makes certain, “the main aim of the label is simply to spread emotion and non-stop dancing” – cannot get much better than that now can you?

For his Bside mix he pulls out some of his favourite records. South African synths and Nigerian brass from 70’s and 80’s fill the grooves first, moving into warm italo synthesisers - a much welcomed sound in these cold months. Close your eyes, lay back in that hammock, kick off your sandals and enjoy the sunshine from REES' collection.

Like much of the electronic music emerging from Denmark of late, B from E seems to have an innovative cutting edge to his sound, as demonstrated by the captivatingly progressive dancescape ‘Waves’ on the B1 of his first release with his native Copenhagen Underground Posse. Aside from his production prowess, B From E also proves to be a top selector with an impressive record collection. Bside Incoming: St. Sunday

The latest instalment of Bside incoming is brought to you by Jamie Pettinger who goes by the name of St. Sunday. 

His involvement in the life and soul of Edinburgh’s music scene needs no overstatement: as a curator for bands and DJ’s at the city’s much loved venue Sneaky Pete’s, and the co-founder and director of EH-FM (Edinburgh’s independent community radio station featuring some of Scotland's best local talent as well as his own monthly genre-spanning show called Home Listening).

An hour will seamlessly drift by with this moody mix of hypnotic house, delving into the Canadian underground scene, showcasing some of America’s deepest grooves and of course a fair share of more locally sourced gems from the likes of Lord of the Isles, Tom VR, and Linkwood.

We endeavour to broadcast the best of the B-side:
a bi-weekly invitation into the impressive record collections of some of our favourite selectors.
An exploration into the the back-catalogues, the deepest depths, the darkest crevices of their collections. Returning with the spoils of this venture: their most cherished records and hidden gems, from the go-to club weapons to the rarely heard home-listening records, and everything in between.

Music is for sharing.

'By the early sixties, the song on the A-side was the 'hit' song that the record company wanted radio stations to play. The B-side would contain less radio friendly and less popular tracks. In our eyes the B-side is a true reflection of the producers taste in music, there is more personality on that side of the record'.
