Living in Paris with his heart rooted in the southern hemisphere, Didier Doudou started record collecting between the waves of the Indian Ocean and the heat of mainland Africa. Though a Zouk-seeker for many years, he has developed a more recent appetite for African Bubblegum, sugary Synth-Pop, and steamy Street Soul. He recently joined the @clubroquette crew based in Paris, who are becoming well known for their top-notch selections and silky mixing skills.

About his mix, Didier explained... "I selected some recent discoveries and long-time favourites that try and capture the essence of the Islander Cast series. I wanted to mix Brazilian Hip-Hop, R&B, Caribbean Ragga and African Zouk (obviously) into an hour long low-tempo set that captures the beauty of a golden afternoon drawing in to a sultry sunset. "💃

Having had such a wicked time with the @collectif-into-the-deep guys in Paris, we managed to get co-captain @arthurlastmann in for a guest mix straight outta Marseille. He came through with a seriously tasty hour of deep digs that travel the globe in true worldwide fashion. One to kick back to, best served with a glass of the good stuff in hand 🍷
 
We keep things breezy on the street soul, reggae, RnB flex in the first hour with Arthur up in the second.

Loose Connections 006 is here and this time round we've got French selector Timéo on board laying down an hour of baleric tinged grooves spanning across multiple genres all with warmth and a peaceful energy in mind. Timéo has been digging and djing over 10 years at this point and has supported the likes of Les Yeux Orange, Demuja and Camion Bazar to name a few! With countless mixes under his belt, Most noteably the Fandango crew, Music for Ears, CTW and Alter Disco this guy wears many hats, currently working as a Mental health carer, running a label and a mix series alongside a solid crew over in Rennes. Let the music take you away and free your mind!

Piers Harrison presents: 10 Boogie Dubs

"I had planned to do 'Ten Deadly Versions' for this, but as it turned out, it was a sunny day, and the militant dubs just weren't hitting right. So, I started playing some boogie instrumentals but kept the Benidub in action. It's all pretty loose, with minimal mixing and maximal dubbing, and recorded all from vinyl. Bit of a shame I couldn't use the Depthcharge pun, so it's going to have to be Ten Boogie Dubs".

This week, it is with great pleasure that we can bring you a mixtape selected from an impressive record collection, complied bu dedicated crate digger, and true purveyors of global sounds: La Casa Tropical.

Hailing from Toronto, but spending lots of their of time in Johannesburg where the record label has taken its deep rooted musical influence, La Casa Tropical crew are on a mission to release and reissue the feel good party gems that they have discovered on their African adventure. 

No wonder then, that our past guest REES opened his Bside account with this sunny song from their 2018 reissue of Bayete’s Blue Monday, just a little taste of the amazing music they have discovered in South Africa :

Melbourne’s Fei Pao aka Glenn Ellingsen, the mind and master craftsmen behind @hotwaxsoundsystem has a deep appreciation and love for great music in everything he does, building soundsystems to honestly reproduce what the artist originally intended – a philosophy championed by NYC Loft legend David Mancuso and carried on by Loft party enthusiasts to this day.

Beginning his journey into sound in Bergen, Norway some 10+ years ago before moving to the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong and finally landing in Melbourne in 2018, Glenn’s own sound and worldly curiosities connect people to beautiful moments in time through years of listening, digging and mixing throughout Norway, NYC, Hong Kong and Japan. 'By the early sixties, the song on the A-side was the 'hit' song that the record company wanted radio stations to play. The B-side would contain less radio friendly and less popular tracks. In our eyes the B-side is a true reflection of the producers taste in music, there is more personality on that side of the record'.
