Bside Incoming: Merchant

The latest instalment of our Incoming series is a Bside extravaganza of global grooves spanning nearly three hours, courtesy of London based duo: Merchant.

Harry and Al began collecting and sharing records during their years at university in Bristol, since moving to London their passion for record digging has only grown, diving deep into genres and subcultures from all over the world. They have amassed, over the years, an impressive catalogue of rare treasures.

After a gentle introduction Merchant will be warming up the turntables with Reggae, Soca, Zouk with the energy rising and into some very tasty House.

My favorite Locomotion yet?? It's been a long time coming but finally had the extended club b3b with Merchant we've been waiting for ever since we played together for the first time. The result is my favorite journey yet - almost 7hrs of spiritual grooves & futuristic rides spanning every genre in our record collections.

What is Locomotion?
Locomotion is about DJ artistry, the creative process & storytelling with music. Every month, I invite someone for an all night b2b DJ set and we go on a journey of spiritual grooves & futuristic rides, making you move like crazy.

The long set time allows us to play long tracks, not shying away from those 8-12min tracks, moving through emotions & genres like there are no boundaries.

We endeavour to broadcast the best of the B-side:
a bi-weekly invitation into the impressive record collections of some of our favourite selectors.
An exploration into the the back-catalogues, the deepest depths, the darkest crevices of their collections. Returning with the spoils of this venture: their most cherished records and hidden gems, from the go-to club weapons to the rarely heard home-listening records, and everything in between.

Music is for sharing.

'By the early sixties, the song on the A-side was the 'hit' song that the record company wanted radio stations to play. The B-side would contain less radio friendly and less popular tracks. In our eyes the B-side is a true reflection of the producers taste in music, there is more personality on that side of the record'.
