For Maloca's 9th installment, Le Motel returns to his own imprint and joins forces with UK's versatile pidgin rap experimentalist Magugu. After their 2021 Shoalin collaboration, these 2 prolific artists embark on a new musical voyage. Their upcoming 4-track EP “Kindness Weakness” carefully intersects Bass, UK Garage, Grime and Jungle.

Magugu is a Nigerian poet who fluently unifies Afrobeat, Dancehall with Grime and Drum and Bass. While performing Magugu raps in Pidgin, which is an English-based creole language spoken in Nigeria. For more than a decade he's been making a name for himself as a Cardiff-based artist with a distinguishable raw voice. After numerous releases on his own imprint GUGUGANG Records, the Pidgin Rap Guru also released on cutting-edge labels like Deep Medi Musik and Critical Music and has worked with significant artists like My Nu Leng, Phase and Chad Dubz.

On Topper is a Jungle/Baile anthem about reaching goals in life, regardless of who steps in your way. Blend is about being an individual that doesn’t fit in with the crowd. Everyone should make their own decisions. Kindness Weakness refers to the fact that some people view kindness as a weakness. Yet everybody has had their share of dark moments too. The final track portrays the softer side of the duo's artistic versatility. A laid back UK Garage groove accompanied by Magugu's soothing voice. Let me down represents finding inner peace and creating your own happiness because in life there are too many people who will let you down. This one goes out to making a promise to yourself and never giving up.

Launched in 2020, Maloca Records aims to bring together an international network of artists. Maloca Vol. 1, featuring tracks by Nick León, OMAAR, DJ JM, Dengue Dengue Dengue, Coen, DJ N.K. and Tsongo. Maloca has also released solo EP's from Howie Lee, Farsight, Griffit Vigo, DJ JM and Yuto Takei.

Here we are at mix 100 of our series with an exclusive mix from none other than Chicago legend and founding father of the footwork genre, producer and DJ, RP Boo! The originator, the inspiration, and the cornerstone on which the entire genre has been built on.
    RP Boo started making tracks in 1995 inspired by the house music around him in Chicago. By bumping up the tempo of ghetto house he established a new template that lit a fire under an entire generation of dancers and producers. He created numerous unreleased tracks before experiencing his personal breakthrough with 1997's ‘Baby Come On’ – a composition many cite as the first Footwork track (find it on the Planet Mu's ‘Classics Vol 1’).
    RP Boo's essential first album, 2013's ‘Legacy’ caused a storm of acclaim worldwide as people finally started to piece together his true place in Footwork and the powerful legacy of his work as an innovator. In parallel with productions, his always on-point DJ sets have lit up festivals and clubs worldwide and continue to do so to this day, notably leading to him being named one of the ‘100 World’s Best DJs’ by DJ Mag.
    This Friday he releases  ‘Legacy Vol.2’ on Planet Mu, continuing his story. Featuring tracks created between 2002 and 2007, this is a wonderous selection of material, some known, some unknown.
    RP Boo continues to produce and tour around the world, spreading good vibes, and joy everywhere he lands. The enduring success of his music proving that there’s still no one quite like him. He is a living legend whose work has influenced us deeply. The collection of music we have chronicled would not exist with out him. We are so honored to be able to showcase a studio mix by one of our heroes! Get into the sound!

It was almost dusk when I walked through the thick fog, compelled by a force unknown to me and drained by the lethargy of weeks gone by. I remember crunching the moist ground below me, toes hugging the dew and moss, feet tapping in rhythm to the bird melodies and siren calls. I found myself scanning the sun’s viscous rays and bowing before her grandiose presence, wishing that I could tell night from day.

Anna Morgan’s “I Don’t Really Care If You Want 2” is a percussive-heavy track, sweltering with footwork vocals and a pounding sub bassline. The track is taken from Shubzin’s third V/A instalment, a 12-track compilation featuring local and international talent including Estebahn, Thinh and CM-4.

All proceeds from sales will be split between two worthwhile services: Faz Amnesty and Steel Warriors. The former is created by knife crime victim Faz, who connects community members in order to swap JD vouchers for weapons, which he then disposes of via the police, and the latter organisation takes knives off the streets and melts them down into calisthenics training bars in public parks. Alongside this release, the organisations are working together in Enfield to build a park for local young people to facilitate a positive and supportive community, particularly in light of the previous year which saw knife crime levels skyrocket.
