My enemies nearly took my life, and I got shot, but I turned my experiences into speeches and shared my story instead.

I dreamed about helping my community, and in that dream, I found myself at a huge table surrounded by people, all of us raising our glasses to celebrate freedom and peace. That moment ignited something in me, and I ended up creating the song “Voice of the Streets.” While my past was mocking me, I was connecting with the streets, sharing laughs with everyone around. It wasn’t just about avoiding conflict; it was about creating a sense of belonging for everyone. But it also came with the harsh reality of losing friends to violence along the way.

At just 17, I was out on the streets, it was tough. We stood in the rain like soldiers, waiting for the right car to roll by. There were always rivals chasing me, firing at the cars I took. One time, I had my brother lean out and shoot back. I was living hardcore, taking what I wanted.

I lost many friends to gun violence from a 100-round magazine. If I could, I would reconnect with my culture and participate in a circle meeting, seeking refuge from the violence. During my time in jail, I felt like I was losing my mind, haunted by dreams of people mocking me as if I were a zoo animal. I want to be a trailblazer for my community and prove my strength.

Ancestral Cries

I was in the studio trying to write my own lyrics, but it was tough. I recalled a movie I watched, one that focused on struggle and pain. It featured stories from maximum-security prisons, all woven into a single song about dreaming of escaping jail and transforming lives. The message is clear: don’t end up in prison; that life isn’t worth it. On a different note, I ended up freestyling this song instead, as I didn’t need written lyrics to express my heart.

Cell Block Christmas (Intro)

My friends and I started causing chaos on the west side, getting drunk and high. We didn’t just mess around with cars; we escalated things and shot at each other. I ended up getting shot in the leg and back, and I posted pictures of my wounds on social media. I bled occasionally because I never got the wounds stitched up. We weren’t really a recognized local crew and didn’t care much about building a reputation. Eventually, we returned to our old habits and jobs. I had a crush on a girl and got her a westside jersey, but her feelings were all over the place. So, I gave it to a girl who actually liked me, and that turned out well. I also had a brief fling with my school teacher and got involved in some questionable activities. My friend gifted me a gun, and if we had taken this lifestyle seriously, we could have claimed a whole area and block.

I’ve traveled far from my time in a jail cell. Some of my friends are affiliated with the Bloods. I’m a local gun and a true G. I have roots on both the west and east sides, I’m willing to take the blame and the hits for my crew, and I’ve even done it without expecting anything in return.

I was trying to solve my issues while appreciating my blessings. From 2021 to 2024, I spent a lot of time on the westside, dealing with problems with my friends. I was grinding day and night, regardless of the hour. A girl showed me affection, but I wasn't interested then. I was drinking heavily during my last time in Winnipeg on the east side, feeling like the only one who believed in myself. I had a sense of brotherhood and respect on the streets, but I lost sight of true respect and sought it from the wrong people. I always wanted to be involved in gang life and had opportunities, but I knew it could lead to violence. I ended up drinking with the 40s and 80s, while my friend left Winnipeg for the six. I learned a lot from my dad; it used to be about money, but now it feels like it's all about violence and conflict.

The Way It Used To Be

Boss and I were causing chaos at clubs and making money from it. We would create mayhem, and the clubs would pay us a monthly fee to keep the peace. It was a side hustle we engaged in occasionally, armed and ready on every corner, thinking of ourselves as the hood cartel. Boss had the idea to rob trucks parked outside convenience stores for cash. I can say I was as street-smart as he was. Then GLE got shot in his driveway while trying to escape witness protection; he had taken an oath. I remember when Dre was selling guns, and I bought some for my crew. Every moment felt dangerous, luckily for me I got out the game, so did boss, I used to always carry a weapon while hanging out with my friends. Now that I'm on the other side, I still check in on them from time to time.

I was out for a Sunday drive, which felt like a car night every summer Sunday. We were cruising in a classic four-door 1981 Chevy Impala. Kyle Boss and I were in the backseat, while Dre and his friend occupied the front. Dre was behind the wheel of this vintage ride, which belonged to his grandparents. Even though we had illegal firearms stashed in the trunk, we decided to roll down the block near Assiniboine Park and Sargent, then hit the freeway on 75. We were pretty reckless back then. Now that I'm older and heavier, I find myself wishing I could go back and experience those moments again. Looking back, it was hilarious.

Crazy Story

It's somewhat like being a tough marine; it signifies you're a serious gangster. I'm not a killer or a hitman, I'd be locked up. I just have knowledge that my dad passed down to me; he was part of that life. The 90s in Winnipeg were wild, and the 80s were no different. Your dad must have faced some tough times. He did, and it motivates me to create gangsta rap. I'm not a G, nor do I aspire to be. I might have done some foolish things with my friends in Saint James, but this is on a whole different level. I see it clearly bro damn.

I played my role in that life on the avenue. I had to pay to be a part of it; even if you were well-connected, you still had to pay. The propaganda and the talk on the streets pulled me in. We often went to war, and not everyone returned.
