After a lengthy nine edition-run, Defected Records bid their Virtual Festival farewell on May 22 with a bombastic lineup and Carl Cox to reign in the closing party. The venerated British selector occupied the headlining spot for Defected Virtual Festival’s final showing, spinning alongside Boys Noize, MK, Idris Elba, and more. Taking to the decks live from Melbourne, Cox seamlessly delivers an hour-long set of unmatched energy on par with his legendary status.

The Virtual Festival closing encompasses selections from Darius Syrossian, Elio Riso, Jose Nunez, and more picks. The set also features an exclusive remix of Geraldine Hunt’s “Can’t Fake The Feeling” from the Ibiza staple. Journeying through a curatorial collection of house flavors, Cox dips into tribalistic tints, underground learnings, groovy beats, and disco euphoria as he mixes a steadfast dance floor pulse until the very end.

Après une longue série de neuf éditions, Defected Records a fait ses adieux à son festival virtuel le 22 mai avec une programmation grandiose et Carl Cox a régné sur la soirée de clôture. Le vénéré sélectionneur britannique occupait la tête d'affiche de la dernière représentation du Defected Virtual Festival, aux côtés de Boys Noize, MK, Idris Elba et bien d'autres. Prenant les ponts en direct de Melbourne, Cox délivre de manière transparente un ensemble d'une heure d'énergie inégalée à égalité avec son statut légendaire.

La clôture du Virtual Festival comprend des sélections de Darius Syrossian, Elio Riso, Jose Nunez et d'autres choix. "Why would you care about anyone else's opinion?" The DJ and dancer talks about work ethic, living authentically and the power of lifting each other up.

DJ and dancer Patrick Mason emits high vibrations and high-energy dance music. But that wasn't always the case. Before he was playing the world's biggest techno festivals, he grew up in conservative Bavaria, where he claims that he "suppressed his truest self" as a closeted gay Black man. Born to an American GI father and a German mother, he learned the power of visualisation and hard work in order to launch himself to Berlin and the freedom of expression it represented. It was in the capital that he had his first sexual experiences and climbed the ranks of fashion and modelling, spending weekend stints at Berghain and immersing himself in the new world of techno.

Career burnout and the Covid-19 lockdowns set Mason down the path of DJing in 2020, and he's since carved out a niche as a party-starter known for flamboyant selections that accompany his elaborate dance routines behind (and even on top of) the decks. In this interview recorded live at ADE 2024, he speaks with Chloe Lula about the obstacles he's overcome to get to the top, personal trauma and struggles with self-acceptance, body dysmorphia, depression, and gay male culture's sometimes unrealistic physical ideals. He also discusses his ambitions to marry the worlds of fashion and music, and his vision for a more authentic music industry. Listen to the episode in full.

orbit the groove-rich, percussion-driven poles of the hardcore continuum. Swing by any B.Traits set
and you’ll hear an eclectic mixture of deep, percussive, rolling techno grooves; find yourself at the
Baby T show and you’ll be plunged into the darkside strains of junglism and breakbeat machine-funk.
And for all her dedication to the dance, the more ambient-leaning releases of Price’s own Paciphonic
imprint demonstrate that by no means are her musical interests simply confined to the club.
