The first in a series re-imagining the Paul Baily Ensemble Version of Sean Ferguson's "Chopping Tool". Swerdna makes the outro the intro but then largely respects the structure of the piece, manipulating and subtracting ensemble elements while adding drum machines, break beats bass synth and wild sound design.

Burnt Umber Penumbra (Matt Boyle, producer and guitarist extraordinaire) gives Sean R. Ferguson's "Chopping Tool"  a thundering, stomping, Godzilla Vs. Gundam style makeover. As the ensemble is sat in the center, commanding electronic drums appear and a storm of guitars engulfs them, whirling in cinematic arcs for the crescendos and trailing away in glittering glissando at the breaks. A stunning soundscape worthy of epic battles!

"Chopping Tool: Dismemberment Plan" is the last in a series re-imagining the Paul Baily Ensemble version of Sean Ferguson's "Chopping Tool". bitsANDwaves' chief producer Aaron Martinez reveals his intimate knowledge of the source material, taking it for a vigorous ride wearing his "aL3RTz" hat. The piece is  gutted, sectioned, and turned inside out with the parts re-assembled, twisted and grafted to new structures, adding up to an entirely new sum.

A drone dispatched from Earth on a probe to a derelict research space station with a malfunctioning warp core encounters an abandoned specimen; a gnat who’s gotten into the energy drinks. Flying and dancing through the abandoned corridors they form an unlikely bond as this sci-fi tale takes a turn to a love story. In a breathtaking finale, the warp core's failure propels them beyond the confines of space and time, and beyond the notions of self and identity in a seamless blend of sound and imagery.

Outta My Mind

Inspired by the short story "The Brick Moon," the first tale of a man-made satellite or space station, "A Brick Moon," combines a driving beat reminiscent of The Chemical Brothers with an experimental blend of real and synthetic sounds.

The track opens with a figure shared by a piano and a Roland 303, which then takes the lead in a squelchy, turntablist-like solo. For the chorus, the piano and bass unite in an undulating riff, contrasting a massive cascading bass synth line and a soaring trumpet. Strings lead the second verse, and the final verse showcases a haunting call and response between the piano and strings.

"A Brick Moon" highlights Swerdna's unique ability to blend synths, drum machines, live instruments, and samples into intricate, experimental textures and tapestries.
