Absolutely delighted to have recorded a mix for Fort Knox Recordings recently for their Funk The World Mix Series, as they are legends in the funky breaks game as DJs, Producers and Record Label owners! The days are getting longer, time to bust out those short shorts and crop tops and my personal favorite: allergies you didn't even know you had. It's the perfect time to clean out those tickle trunks and breathe in the stale smell of last years festivals as it reignites those pre-festie jitters all over again. When I made this mix, I had the intention of creating something to smoothly ease us all back to where we left off last year and to promote gratitude as we watch the outside world around us come back to life as it shapes and sculpts the outdoor dance floors we live for. So grab your favourite weirdo, your JBL speaker, sun tan those butt holes and shamelessly start day drinking on a Tuesday...you earned it.

I’ve been saying for ages to everyone that would listen ‘I’ve got that on 45’ but no one seemed to care! So to remedy that, I’ve put together this mix of some of my finest 45s & 7s. It's (nearly) 90 mins of funk, hip hop, latin & disco featuring tunes & mixes by Quantic Soul Orchestra, Fort Knox Five, Smoove, De La Soul, Andy Cooper, James Brown, Edwin Star & many more. There’s some of the records that Mr Doris & I have made & released. I've been crate diggings all over the world for years & this is a selection of those little spinny gems. 

The mix isn’t perfect but 45s mixes never are. If you’ve not tried to mix these little suckers together I can honestly tell you’ve they’ve got a mind of their own. Some of them are 50 years old! In fact one on the mix is 55 years old. If you listen closely you can hear the needle skipping on a number of occasions. But it’s these imperfections that give it all character. I very much enjoyed mixing it & I hope you too enjoy the selection…

'My 45s Mix' [VINYL DJ MIX]

This was a recorded practice session for my recent set at Breakbeat BBQ in Los Angeles and I selected tracks that really spoke to me. I hope that the vibes and lyrics in some of the tracks are cathartic in releasing the pressure from tensions our world is facing. It’s a thoughtful combo of beauty, darkness, profound radical self expression and powerful messages that take the words right out of my mouth. I had such a good time putting this together and I don’t really feel like censoring any imperfections or re-recording it, so I hope you enjoy this mix I made in real time as is, knowing that it was my one and only take. Time is of the essence, so I'm choosing progress over perfection and letting the music do some much needed preaching.
