.50 CAL M2HB: Recorded 8 channels in a sugar cane field on location for "The Pacific" in Oct 2007 in the Far North Queensland. A DPA 4700 was placed approximately 1’ from side of shooter. A DPA 4062 was mounted on the shooters hat. A Sanken CSS-5 in wide stereo mode was about 8-10’ back with a Crown SASS 20’ behind shooter and a RODE NT4 approximately 100’ in front of shooter facing away. Compression and EQ was used during bouncing of tracks down to stereo.

.50 CAL  M2HB "Ma Deuce"

M2 Half Track: Recorded on location outside Melbourne Australia for "The Pacific" in November of 2007. A full series of bys and maneuvering captured as well as onboard from truck bed and cab. Some doors, dry shifting, pedal movement was also recorded. Several tracks have looser track noise which is very distinctive.The truck itself is powered by a White 160AX 6 cylinder 147 hp engine.

M2 Carrier Personnel Half Track

The GMC Truck, 2 1/2-ton, 6x6, Cargo, CCKW (G-508) was named according the GMC production nomenclature of the time: C = designed in 1941, C = standard cab, K = front wheel drive, W = rear wheel drive. Recorded on location for "The Pacific" outside Melbourne Australia in November of 2007. A full series of bys and maneuvering captured as well as onboard from truck bed and cab. Doors, tail gate, pedal, gas cap also recorded. 2 different trucks recorded the first had a loose fan belt. The trucks themselves are powered by a 6 cylinder 92 hp engine (GMC 270).

M4A2 Sherman Tank:  Recorded on location for "The Pacific" in the Far North Queensland, early evening Oct 2007. Several bys and maneuvering captured as well as onboard from turret. Some tracks have heavier crickets in background as the day progressed. Nice diesel engine with light track. Good squeaks and stress creaks. Recorded with a stock Tascam HD-P2 and Sanken CSS-5.

M4A2 Sherman Tank (Diesel)

The LVT’s became the main load carriers of the early Pacific operations and were most often used to carry ashore the first waves of US Marines. The LVT’s were first used in action at Guadalcanal and thereafter every island-hopping operation involved them. A loading ramp at the rear enable it to carry large loads such as Jeeps. Powered by a 7 cylinder, 4 cycle, radial engine. They have a distinctive sound - that of the aircraft of the same era.

LVT2 / 4 "Water Buffalo"

LCVP ( Landing Craft Vehicle Personnel ) also known as a Higgins Boat. Powered by a 225 hp Diesel engine. Mostly onboard steadies at various speeds captured. Recorded from stern, starboard and bow. Recorded on location for "The Pacific" in the Far North Queensland Oct. 2007


LCVP - Higgins Boat

Experimental replica of a Japanese Light Tank. Custom designed hull and track. Running on a V8 Ford engine. Original had a 120 hp Mitsubishi NVD 6120 air-cooled diesel engine. I wasn’t able to record a full series as the tank broke down twice while we were recording. I did however capture several long ins , bys and maneuvers with aways. The custom treads sound wicked! Recorded on location about 35km outside Melbourne.


Type 95 "Ha- Go" Japanese Tank

Powered by a Continental W-670-9A; 7 cylinder , radial 250HP engine. Weapons included a 75mm Howitzer mounted in the turret and a .30 Cal M1919A4 MG cab bow right. Recorded on location for "The Pacific" outside Melbourne.

LVT A4 “Amtank”

Entered service with the M&MTB on 27 May 1953. Recorded onboards, a series of ins, bys, manuevers and aways as well as horn, stop bell and doors.


AEC Regal Mark III Omnibus #537

W class trams were introduced to Melbourne in 1923. They had a dual bogie layout - all wood construction on a steel under frame. The W class was the mainstay of Melbourne’s tramways system for over 60 years. Recorded on a DEVA V at 24/96. A H3-D Holophone was placed mid cabin. A DPA 4061 was placed under the carriage thru the open floor boards. Finally a Sanken CSS-5 was placed in the open compartment area facing out and down towards the track and wheels. Onboards at 2 speeds were recorded in 5.0 with mono under carriage and stereo exterior sweeteners. Exterior bys, in-stop-aways as well as bells and cable twangs were also captured.
