Swiss artist Olan! is known for high-tempo, tear-out techno via their label 0x01 Records, which is now dropping ‘Morphological Freedom’, an EP exploring half-time grooves and dreamy pads for the 12th instalment on the imprint. Each release mixes things up, with Olan! drawing upon their background in jazz and psychedelic rock bands to make passionate and playful techno, with previous outings having received top-level support from tastemakers like Marco Faraone, Rebekah and DJ Bone.

First out of the blocks is 'Weak Hypercharge', in which gabber-tinged drums and wild synths zip about as machines melt down, adding additional energy via bright digital melodies. The assault continues with 'Molecular Assembler', which pairs twitchy synth energy with racing techno drums set against a backdrop of soothing trance pads.

'Morphological Freedom' is a hyperreal world of glistening and pixelated synth lines that convey charm over crunchy and broken drum loops, before the magnificent 'Piece For Them' rounds off the EP with a psychedelic hall of mirrors reflecting harmonies while gleaming metal drums work in overdrive. This is an EP of fresh new school techno that leaves you in awe at Olan!'s mix of mellow synths and warp-speed rhythms.

SQCOS, a Stuttgart-based producer hailing from Germany, has been entrenched in the electronic music scene since 1996. With a versatile repertoire spanning techno, drum and bass, and electronic genres, he seamlessly navigates between vinyl and digital mediums. Notably, he holds a residency at Subland Club in Berlin. His early immersion in music led him to master the drums, contributing his skills to various bands. However, it was the burgeoning electronic music scene of the late '90s that truly ignited his passion. Embracing the electrifying energy of rave culture, SQCOS gravitated towards breakbeats and techno, carving his niche in the vibrant landscape.
