Over the last five years, the band have accumulated more EPs and albums than most bands achieve in several lifetimes, blurring garage rock, lo-fi, anti-folk, prog, psych and pop into one almost indefinable expanse. More than any of these previous releases, In The Best Case… incorporates the songwriting input of James Buzzanca (bass) and Joe Coleby (drums) resulting in epic, tight, bass-rich sonics akin to Mystery Jets, The Wave Pictures, Herman Dune and Arcade Fire. On top of these sit the abstract, everyday lyricism of frontman Reginald Foxwell charting topics ranging from the relative speed of slugs to death to love to the end of the world.

Bubblewrap Collective are proud to announce the forthcoming release of ‘Universe’ by MANDY, the moniker of Mel and Andy Fung. Written and recorded in the lead up to Mel’s passing from cancer in October 2014, it marks her final profound and beautiful musical statement. 

Both MANDY’s members pedigree in the Welsh music scene is well-established, performing with the likes of Derrero, Richard James, Pink Assassin, The MeMeMe’s, No Thee No Ess and many, many more. ‘Universe’ marks a departure both from these previous projects, as well as MANDY’s anarchic approach to music-making itself, demonstrating even greater maturity and songwriting depth. More than this, the album is testament to its creator’s restless creativity. Mel’s close friend, Mared Lenny, says it better than we could:

Perfect Body formed in Cardiff, early 2017, inspired by the sonic experimentation of bands like My Bloody Valentine, Stereolab, and The Brian Jonestown Massacre. Their earliest performances took place in Cardiff’s underground, often in practice spaces and house parties: So, by the time Perfect Body emerged on the music scene, they had already sculpted a distinctive sonic identity. The attention gained from their first single, ‘Getting Cold’, saw them supporting the likes of Jen Cloher, Slowcoaches, and The Wytches.

Perfect Body’s sound is characterized by it’s noisy, psychedelic guitar playing; icy, ethereal synthesizers; and a muscular, yet dynamic rhythm section. Their three vocalists, each with their own style and identities, ensure that Perfect Body’s performances are varied and engaging. Perfect Body is a wall of noise, hazing over and obscuring what is, at it’s core, pop-oriented songwriting.

Despite being only 19, Zac White has been playing on Cardiff’s live music scene for over five years. Alongside his early days performing with FUR and part of Lily and White, Zac has been honing his own sound based on influences such as Wilco, Loose Fur, Sonic Youth and Broadcast.

His 90s/00s off-kilter indie sound has grown from minimal arrangements with drummer Ethan Hurst into a rollicking, reverb-drenched, garage-psych experience. For his live shows and upcoming EP, accompaniment comes from Tom and Ed Rees of Buzzard, with whom Zac also plays.

Quiet Marauder enter the Covid-19 cultural content wars with their latest single, Eggs!, out on 17th June 2020. A long-time live favourite initially hatched on their 2013 record-baiting debut album, MEN, this re-imagined version turns the dial up to the figurative '11', maybe even higher. Eggs! captures QM in the midst of one of their bass-heavy, drum-smash performances from times when we could all stand close to one another in the same room. Featuring the full Cardiff live band, Eggs! will be familiar to anyone who has captured QM in their full pomp over the last few years. Lyrically concerned (almost exclusively) with the origin and nature of eggs, the song's protagonist is a man slowly loosening their grip on reality through an unhealthily deep and logically irrational obsession.

Eggs! forms part of Quiet Marauder's forthcoming release, Tiny Men Parts; a collection of 9 tracks upgrading a small fraction of their massive, 111-song deconstruction of toxic masculinity, MEN. Gone is the skittish charm of the lo-fi bedroom bangers. Entering instead are the full-on living room floor fillers . Engineered by Tom Rees (Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard) at Rat Trap Studios, Cardiff, Tiny Men Parts will be in the Autumn before another subsequent full album, The Gift, scheduled for later in the winter.

It’s time for an end-of-year round-up from HMS Morris! Here’s the story behind Pastille EP, which will be released on December 4th on Bubblewrap Records:

Pastille is a collection of 5 songs we’ve written (or at least finished off) during 2020, and as such is a chronicle of our experience of one of the most significant years in living memory. There’s been plenty of time to think seriously about our life choices, as well as much pondering of superficial silliness. We’ve reacted to political turmoil first with a call to arms, and then with lots and lots of samba-charged escapism.

Even the method of Pastille’s release is a reflection of 2020. This year signifies the end of the old-school music industry, which has been on life support ever since CD sales stopped pumping at the turn of the century. Ever more dependent on touring income, the industry faces a bleak future as the ban on live music events lingers on.

One bright point has been the growing profile and importance of Bandcamp. The platform has long been the most direct way of turning fans’ money into musicians’ lunches, and this year they’ve stepped up their support even further by waiving their fees on the first Friday of every month. It’s in recognition of Bandcamp’s role in the emerging 21st century music industry – and in recognition that we need to eat! – that we are releasing Pastille exclusively as a vinyl package on that platform.
We realize that asking fans to pay directly for our music might seem cheeky, presumptuous, or be annoying for people who already pay a subscription for a streaming service, so we’ve worked hard to make Pastille as special as possible, a package that’s infinitely better than just streaming the tunes.
