The Norwegian born, Berlin based DJ/producer is renowned for his freespirited curveball-mix ranging from balearic tutti-frutti, proto-house and percussion-workouts to cosmic techno, discokraut-gymnastics and outerworldly explorations. For this mix he has honed in on his ambient & downtempo selection to take you on a sonic voyage through the cosmos and beyond. All from the comfort of your own couch. 1. about the mix

this mix is a nod to brother marco (mlir/magic teapot), who recently visited naarm to play tunes & share music together & played a gig with records from my collection & shop stock (on sc now), & now somehow this is a recording including many downtempo and 2-step tunes he digitally dropped me to say thanks, mostly from his personal rips • balance • each track has a lot of soul & to say, & is mixed in a way that every sound gets to breathe, speak for itself & transmit in a somewhat neo-mancusian fashion ~ trippy electronica and wavy dub-disco hypnosis, melodic beats and grooves mixed & recorded using analog hifi gear in the halfway home studio of the past 6 months before dinner one cold naarm winter evening • just like every mix from me, this was improvised in the moment, never planned out, just hit record randomly and see what happens ~ you guys came into my mind multiple times during the recording, so seemed right to share these sounds for the series 🙂

2. about sounds good records


sounds good records is what happens when as an active dj, my collection has to be as tight as possible, so that whatever record or track gets selected, it's guaranteed pure fire ~ when done with a physical record, (perhaps a digi will suffice) it goes onto the website, kinkyaudiolabel.com ~ some others are harder to let go of, and will stay in my personal collection for many years before finding a spare or putting it up for sale for one reason or another • all records on sounds good are to my personal taste, & would feel strange selling a record that didn't sound good in my opinion, rather give it to a charity shop and send it back into the circulation of music via melted plastic plates to live another life and touch another heart

3. meaning of dance music 

you know what, barefoot tribal dancing to drums around a huge fire heals many things ~ there's two sides of a west african 7" field recording of unknown year (likely late 60's) nigerian tribal drumming by babatunde olatunji that always inspires me to move and contemplate movement as a ritualistic practice, drums are a deep primal vibration ~ calling in the fire drumming dancing movement spirit

4. cosy at home music

thursday afternoon by brian eno (61min version) has to be one of the most relaxing & calibrating moods, recommend it a lot for tapping into a creative or focused flow • can't say enough about getting into a meditative state at least once per day where body and mind become one, if only for a moment ~ also recommend app an called "environments" with recordings by irv tiebel/syntonic research inc (69'-79' 12" series of same name) that has lovely nature sounds, psychoacoustic-ly recorded and spliced together, human ears are historically attuned to find such natural sounds soothing and calm, such as water sources, birds, ships, beaches, sunsets, cornfields, rainforests, & other meditative soundscapes

It makes sense to have Oltermann back for seconds. Love Mix was recorded around valentines day earlier this year, when he was meant to play at a gaff but they hadn't sorted out decks. Shit when that happens. Distraught? Never. The ambassador of love heads home, plugs Zoom in and here we are. 

If you've heard him play what ensued will come as no surprise: heartfelt soul, disco, house and italo. Classics and obscurities. We begin our podcast series with a recording from one of the great DJs of our time, Vladimir Ivkovic, playing the final 3 hours of Bakk Heia at The White Hotel in May 24. 

In typical Vlad fashion there is a distinct and unique narrative quality to the mix. Whilst genre defying psychedelia churns into spikey IDM, and wailing post punk iterations flow into mainline acid stomp, there is an over arching sense of tenderness to the selection. Vlad told us after the lights came on that it was his intention to hold and take care of us that night. Transforming the spiralling chaos of the club environment to one which nurtures, rather than obliterates, our frenzied minds.
