DJ Polo X LR Groove - Rapture

A talented producer with deep Ghanaian roots and UK upbringing, Brendan Hagan Opoku Ware better known as Hagan sits at the intersection of two cultures and has manifested in creating a progressive sound marinated around African polyrhythms and it’s often unsung influence on European club culture.

Having released forward facing riddims on labels such as Enchufada and Future Bounce with remixes for Dengue Dengue Dengue. The South-London based producer marks his debut on Gobstopper Records with Waves filled three heavily percussive club constructions unlocking another dimension to his sound.

On opener ‘Waves’,ambient atmospherics smoothly open up to muted arpeggiated brass and light Rhodes chords which are given further vim by ancestral Dondo percussion and rattling cowbells. A remnant of his recent productions having spent time recording traditional Ghanaian percussionists at the legendary Vivivi Studios in Accra.

Influenced by the O.G. Lil Silva think Night Skanker meets Cheese & Bun, ‘Ultra’ sets pace from the off personifying the infectious Praise and Worship section of Pentecostal Church with a raw kick drum foundation filled with jump up Soca energy to induce...  more

On Sight

Budalagi is a DJ/Producer from Buru Buru Estate nestled within Nairobi’s vibrant Eastlands area. 

Forging his own path within Nairobi's underground electronic scene, Budalagi has been prolifically producing tracks for the last 4 years, first turning heads with the gloriously off kilter Kulonkóì - a wonky, raw take on amapiano. His output since then has veered between experimental burners (Mura, from the KMRU curated compilation INSHA), to straight up club bangers like Tundra and Kiboko which have received support by the likes of Mathew Herbert, Skin 0n Skin, Kampire, Authentically Plastic. Kikelomo, Catu Diosis to name a few. He’s also built a cache of secret weapon edits that include flips of Awilo Longomba, Boondocks Gang, Wiz Khalifa and Dismas Nyang'au Onsoti’s Kisii classic One Day Morning. 
   
Budalagi's skills have been gaining notoriety globally, with his music and mixes receiving airplay on platforms like BBC Radio 1, NTS and Rinse FM. As a DJ, he’s built a reputation for uncompromising sets heavily populated by his own productions.

As one part of the Santuri Soundsystem, and a key part of the Santuri East Africa team, Budalagi has also been deeply involved in training and supporting a new generation of producers and DJs. He is also a resident at Nairobi’s premier techno event series Temple. With a slew of releases, collaborations and shows upcoming, his unique take on african electronic music is setting the tone for a new authenticity for Nairobi’s underground.
