Buddha in the Balcony (bitb) is an alternative pop act helmed by producer‑musician Julian Chan. Rooted in the sonic DNA of his formative years, from the shimmering synths of 80s new wave and post‑punk to the gritty undertones of 90s alternative and electronica, bitb fuses these influences into a sound that is both nostalgic and modern.

Conceived during the pandemic lockdown of 2020, the project quickly evolved beyond its origins, with Julian’s wife Yasmeen becoming a recurring vocal presence and a circle of “friends and family” collaborators contributing vocals, lyrics, instrumentation, and creative energy. The result is a body of work that feels intimate yet expansive: authentic, unfiltered, and evocative, a testament to the synergy between Julian’s vision and the voices that join him — creating a space where alternative pop is reimagined through life experiences and a commitment to crafting sonic stories that resonate deeply.
