Silence is necessary in order for us to be able to focus on our true objective in life. We need to live our lives in a selfless manner without attachment to the, I me and mine. When we free ourselves from opinions and lessen the attachments of desire, needing and wanting we experience the true being-ness of life…joy! Deep acceptance of what is so sets us free. As we peel back the layers of deception we have created and throw them away forever, we lighten the load we are carrying and lighten our life. Thus reveling what is the true life we have presently, which is full of happiness, joy, freedom and love. Embrace the silence and see for yourself that all you want in here and now.

His Brother The Coyote

The recording was made at Tiny Telephone Studios in San Francisco almost a year ago with Scott McDowell as engineer extraordinaire. Scott also mastered and mixed the final album at Hyde Street Studio C (many thanks Scott!)

The final mastering took a long time mainly because of the emotional impact the recording had on me as I listened to it after we recorded it. The songs kept bringing up powerful memories of my dog Arlo, who at the time had recently passed on. I began to hear his voice and feel his Spirit in the songs.

I also began to see many pictures of him, Crucita, Tooney, Tanya, my Mom and Dad, Joey and many other people we had known and places that we had experienced together. The process was heart wrenching to say the least and it was a major part of my grieving process to listen to the music and hear his Spirit in the sounds, remembering his calm, clear and unconditionally loving presence.

I created this meditation to assist a podcast listener who was having trouble with the guided breathing mediations on the A Quiet MInd podcast. Daniel has a condition called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy that requires him to use a machine for breathing. The concept was if  Daniel could just focus on a sound instead of his breathing, he would be able to relax without much effort on his part. This in turn inspired the concept to create an iPad app that would have guided meditations, images and relaxing sounds of nature to help people meditate, relax and be still. I'm still in the process of capturing the live sounds and images from nature, and I've become a student in the fine art of sound recording. How to quiet your mind in 1000 easy steps - just kidding.

So you want a quiet mind eh?

Life is difficult. There is pain and suffering and at times there is a deep misery or depression beyond our control. Sometimes we fail and sometimes the world just kicks our ass.

It’s ok to fail, forget, blow it, lose it and fall. To move forward we must allow ourselves to look the fool, to trip up and make mistakes. The saying goes, fall six times and get up seven but no one tells you how long you can stay down. I say, stay down as long as you need to and you’ll know when to get back up.

Just know this: what keeps us down is how we talk to ourselves in our heads. Watch out for self deprecating thoughts and actions but don’t try to use positive mantras to get up again. Your job is to just watch and observe where the thoughts come from and become aware of how you may be sustaining your own failures by your thinking patterns.

We can move forward without the harsh inner critic and the condescending mind chatter. Be aware of the difficulties in going against the stream of normalcy and learn how to coast where you need to coast.

Just Be. Just be yourself.

Robert’s sacred journey with the flute began in 1993 after hearing the haunting sounds at an art gallery in Sedona, Arizona. Upon hearing the music, something resonated deeply within Robert’s soul, as if he had heard the music before, perhaps another life. Instead of purchasing a CD of the music, he decided to find a flute and play the music for himself.

Sitting in his own studio/gallery in Sedona, Robert allowed the flute to teach him the way. Spending time in nature alone, listening to the wind, birds and animals he learned by imitating the sounds of nature. This created a deep connection to the earth, nature, animals and Source that began Robert’s own long journey of healing from abuse, alcoholism, depression and drug use.

It was the shamanic practice of becoming like a hollow bone and allowing the sound to simply flow through him that facilitated his healing. The practice began the  removal of  inner blocks, negativity, pain, loss and sadness that finally brought a healing and inner peace to him over a period of many years.

Robert now shares his gift of healing to help others relax, transform and mend their tired souls. The sounds of the native flute can be the panacea and medicine for a peaceful and compassionate life change.
