Poker Hill Song (Big Mix)

This song was recorded on Christmas Eve. My daughter, Emma is very tired and sounds sleepy. It's from the Animated Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer. Emma was in Middle School. I have included it as a bonus in the MK collection because it was from the same time and it's very sweet.

Light A Flame

This song is dedicated to my wonderful home of Vermont which endured catastrophic flooding caused by global warming repeatedly in the last few years.
It is also for my departed friend Ann Lord. I inherited  her harmonica and used it on this track. Her influence throughout the years  made me '...love me some Johnny Cash" (in a Texan accent like Ann's.). This song is also a nod to the Man In Black. Thanks J.R.

Weary Sky (in the 802)

This these lyrics were written in June 2021 in New York City, right as the Pandemic was winding down a little. But the Public Library was still closed! I sat in Bryant Park Terrace with the lions, gods, goddesses, satyrs, gargoyles. These along with the city sounds seemed to suggest this theme to me on that summer evening.

This idea was first hatched in the first dark days of the lock down isolation. I didn't use any of the original lyrics except 'Red Phone' but the early lockdown fear permeates this song.

The sugared peanuts and pother nuts purchased warm on the streets of NYC are wonderful and warm. Like jazz.

This one is one of the MK's early rockers. It was performed throughout the 12 years by new kids as others grew up and left the group.

For the chorus I told kids to sound like a bunch of kids singing at the lunch table in school.

I have been a teacher since 1984 and have been concentrating on music education for many years. I think the way children respond to music is wonderful. Their playful influence shows up in my music everywhere. In the  two Minor Key Albums, 'Rockin' In The Pet Shop' and 'What Can We Do?', most of the songs were written with kids who are a source of unique, profound and spontaneous language that comes hard to adults. Writing songs with kids is a joy! The Minor Key band played libraries, farmers markets, youth rock festivals (its a thing) and many regional stages. We even opened for the School of Rock (like in the movie but real) 4 times on big stages. 
The Minor Key Youth Music Programs (non profit) did work in the community to make music (specifically folk, rock and country) available to children in the schools, at regular 'Youth Rock Concerts", The Minor Key hosted local teenage bands inviting them to use our stage equipment and play live. It was a direct line from the garage to the live stage for kids! The MK lasted 12 years and served hundreds of kids in a variety of ways and they all ROCKED! Several former MK members went on to be adult musicians and music teachers.
Also included in this collection is my earlier album, Children's Song Garden which includes the regional hit (with children), I'm Not Scared, which is a gothic song of fear and ghosts.
