Generally that Insullation can be utilized in a small situation. I mean it's easier to install if you want to buy a little bit at Home Depot or some place like that to insulate, it does a good job. Usually, that's going to be probably fiberglass or mineral wool. You can get fiberglass, or mineral wool, or cellulose in this blow in condition here and that's put in these types of cavities. Any of those could be utilized, it just depends.

The trusses allow these open cavities that you can see for the air conditioning ducts to run through as well as all the other mechanicals which will be coming in here. And plugging a little for insulation and everything else that's required for this particular house. The first subtrade that's in after framing is the heating and air conditioning contractor. And the reason for that is because of the bulk that they require, the space that they require to install their equipment and material. And the codes require these ducts to be free of electrical wires. They're not supposed to be touching one another. So when the electrician comes in we take a look around at the existing ducts. So that's the reason for them coming in first.

You'll notice when a home is framed, you'll see things that you think aren't supposed to be there. Some of it is put in there for other reasons, other than load-bearing condition. And this particular location in the corner over here, there's an additional 2 x 4 in pieces that's nailed to the 2 x 6. The reason it's there is so that the drywall will have an attachment on the inside. It's just there, that's just a scab or an additional stud that's required for nailing for the drywall. It's not a load-bearing condition. It's just something that was required in that particular corner.

This is going to be the location of the water heater, and this is a gas line, under pressure still, for test. This is a release. This is gonna be the supply. And it's raised. These are always put up on the pedestal, because gas is heavier than air. And so, if there is any gas leak, the premise is that the gas will come down into this area, and flow out, rather than cause an explosion up in this area. Chances of that happening are slim and none, but it has happened in the past, thus, the raised area. Over here, we have an high-low vent, which is required whenever you have gas in a confined space.

What you're looking at is some of the infrastructure that's required for these types of subdivisions. There's going to be a manhole here. This is a sewer line that they're putting in. And at each lot, they'll put a little stub out for the sewer, for each particular lot as they come through here. But the sewer has to be dug down to whatever is predetermined, because of the height of the sewers in the area, that's why the depth is required to tie in with all the other existing sewers. The markings that you see on the sides, are the individual lot stub outs for the sewer. You'll see one across the way, and there's one over here, so there's going to be a lot over here, obviously, one over here, and they've both kept their stubs out for the sewer, and that's just part of the infrastructure that's being put in here.

The stability for each of these pipes coming out of the ground is done with using a little bit of rebar to hold things in place because these are pre-positioned in a wall location. The other reason that I was talking about the dimensions coming from this location until that location, this wall is here and this needs to come up in a wall cavity. It can't come up in the middle of the floor, obviously. So, rebar is used to reinforce those locations.

Underground Plumbing Stubs For Back To Back Bathrooms

This is sheeting that's 3/8ths thick, and it's called shear when it's applied to the outside of a house. The shear wall is not specified on every home. There are cases where the stucco system is applied directly to the studs. In this particular case, they're using shear wall. I don't know how much of this particular house. Sometimes, they just use them on corners, where it's specified, where the engineers specified it be used. It's to keep the house from racking. It's the twisting that takes place in a house. We even use it sometimes on the interior of a home, where they need a wall to be sheared, for strength, additional strength inside the wall. And it's all about engineering again. Obviously, a shear wall adds to the cost of the home. But, it's a question that you might ask yourself. Everything that I build, I put shear on whether it's specified or not.

Pros and Cons of Full Wrapping A Home With Shear Walls

The manufacturer of the trusses is responsible for the engineering of the truss. They're giving all the information for space, for the distance they have to run from point A to point B. These trusses run all the way from one outside wall to the other and they carry the roof load and everything from point that point to that point. So, the two bearing walls are the ones on the side where the truss sets, and these trusses are put together and manufactured in the facility to meet the requirements for this particular job. These truss plates are also manufactured and pre-engineered just to handle these intersections and they're all part of that engineering process. It's done by that particular coupling.
