60s Lafayette Tube Amp noise

This was a test recording of my Weber amp kit build. It is a clone of a 1957 Fender low power Tweed Twin in a head cabinet. The head is run through a custom built 4x12 cabinet loaded with Celestion G12K speakers. There were a few minor adjustments like star grounding, a few value changes in some components, a bias pot was installed, and KT66 tubes used instead of 6L6. In this sound clip, there are two guitars. The first is a '72 Telecaster Deluxe Reissue on both bridge and neck pickups. The second is an Epiphone Les Paul seven string through the Seymour Duncan 59 in the bridge. I wanted to show how the amp handled gain from pedals, so with the Les Paul I briefly played clean, then turned on a clean boost I built (GGG Alembic Stratoblaster kit) and then added a distortion I also built (GGG B.S.I.A.B. II kit). This clip was recorded with a Tascam DR08 handheld digital recorder and spliced together in Reaper software with no plugins used.

I acquired this old tube amp from a person on craigslist. Barely made any sound and what sound it did make was horrible. Sounded as if the power tubes or filter caps were bad. Since I was going through and upgrading components, I decided to replace every capacitor in the amp just for peace of mind. I used F & T electrolytics in the filter cap section, Mallory 150 series for coupling caps as well as a couple of Solen Fast Caps. When the board was pulled out, I reconnected a couple of broken ground line solder joints. Finally, I installed a new slow blow 2A fuse, replaced the power switch, installed a three prong grounded power plug (safety first, folks), and installed new Electro Harmonix 6973 power tubes as well as a new 6CA4 rectifier. Forgive the recording as it was done on my phone since I didn't have another option at the time. I will have to post another clip of the amp cranked and with the channels bridged as it has a fantastic overdrive to it!

Weber 40 watt 5E8A kit I built modified a bit and running KT66 power tubes. Had the volume at about 7 (out of 11) through the bright channel playing a Telecaster Deluxe '72 reissue. Not great audio quality, but I had to record it with my phone as I didn't have anything else available at the time. This thing has some good overdrive when cranked up. As stated, this isn't even cranked all the way.

Testing out my newly acquired '72 Telecaster Deluxe Reissue through a 1962 Kay model 504 tube amplifier. Recorded with a Tascam DR-08 approximately 6 ft. away on the floor at speaker level.
