Having been one of his biggest festival tunes in the summer of 2014, the Luxxury mix of Greg Wilson’s 'Summer Came My Way' - which originally surfaced on last year’s 'Schooled In The Classics' 12” - was put on the back burner throughout the winter in readiness for a full 2015 release. Juxtaposed by Walter Ego’s equally sublime take on the track, the release marks the first of eight records to be issued over the summer months.

Sometimes composition is a long and arduous process, other times a song arrives fully formed. The latter was the case for Greg when he imagined 'Summer Came My Way' as a vehicle for hitherto unknown vocal forces of nature, The Reynolds - twins Katherine and the song’s lead singer Carmel - who, by beautiful serendipity happened to live within a mile of Greg’s Merseyside home.

Bursting out of LA with a lavish twelve-part re-edit series last year, Luxxury’s brand of hazy, slo-mo reworks - a West Coast Balaeric fusion - has catapulted him onto the world stage. Opening his mammoth eight- hour Berghain set in 2013 with Luxxury’s 'Hotel California' rework, Greg helped bring his Los Angeles vibes to wider attention, bolstered by his subsequent support of other reworks; 'Night Fever' and 'Riders On The Storm'.

A victim of his own success, 'Hotel California' gained Luxxury a little too much notoriety and, after a Wall Street Journal interview began circulating, Warner came down on him like a ton of bricks on finding out he’d used The Eagles’ multitracks. All was resolved however and he’s currently recording his forthcoming album, with great things expected for 2015 and beyond. The Luxxury approach perfectly fitted Greg’s vision of the song and the result is a glorious nine-minute epic, just in time for the summer.

With releases on the legendary Ninja Tune, San Francisco’s murky Symbols and Kerri Chandler’s jackin’ MadTech, Walter Ego’s appeal stretches across the board; from forward thinking house to rough and ready grime. Having got to know the Sheffield musician during recent years, Greg was impressed by what he heard, especially an as yet unreleased project he was working on in collaboration with London singer, Obenewa. Inviting him to remix the track, Walter returned an ethereal yet mechanical take on 'Summer Came My Way', his delicately decaying synths and cold hydraulic rhythm giving the track a brooding quality and placing The Reynolds in an entirely new context.

Solo Remains are previously unreleased tracks from Nils Frahm’s album Solo, which was recorded on the M370, the world’s largest piano, built by the visionary piano maker David Klavins in 1987.

Nils fell in love with the sound of this giant and joined David for the new project – building an even higher piano – the Model 450. The aim of it is to explore the not yet reached physical limits of the piano instrument and also to push forward into new musical dimensions. The M450 will be characterized by an even clearer sound with more depth and richness of overtones as well as an unrivaled frequency spectrum and intensity of sound and tone. In time for the 2nd anniversary of Piano Day, Nils decided to give four previously unreleased songs from that very session to his fans and supporters of the Klavins 450 project.

“In the end, every album production leaves you with the same tough task – making the choices for the final track selection. You leave out some tracks for various reasons: some of the tracks are wonderful by themselves, but they simple don’t fit anywhere in the album and others have to be left out because otherwise the vinyl would become too long for a cut in good quality. However, these outtakes are often as important as the final selection and I thought, they might be a great surprise for Piano Day too. I hope in this case, it’s both …”

I am a big fan of The Eagles, so when the stems for this awesome track fell into my computer I just could resist... I had to rework it.

I still can't believe this song was recorded 37 years ago ! I was given access to the original masters with all its separately recorded 16 tracks and everything sounded remarkably fresh. The drum beat as it was played by Earl Young became the blueprint not only of the Disco beat but later of the House beat. You can still here many elements of its groove on current productions. It was a huge privilege for me to remix the Love I Lost. Many musical and vocal sections were buried deep in the original 73 mix and i could put them back at the forefront. This is a snippet of the second half of my 11+ minutes remix.

Another addition to this series of edits. I was looping the start of Golden Lady at a gig recently and mixing it with something off Keep Up and it seemed like the right thing to do.

I love this track deeply so I hope you will forgive me chopping it - it is honestly done with love. Nothing could improve the original - I was simply taking it somewhere else for DJing purposes. x

Musik ist emotionale Kommunikation. Im Idealfall eine Begegnung der besonderen Art. Mit Tönen Bilder malen und teilen, Klangbilder, das ist es, was mich interessiert.

Ich freue mich über Soundcloud und seine musikliebende Community. Hier veröffentlichen zu dürfen, was in meinem kleinen Tonstudio entsteht und eure Reaktionen zu sehen macht mir Spaß.

Ich spiele ein paar Instrumente, hauptsächlich Gitarre und Keyboard, und arangiere meine Klangbilder schon seit Ende der 80er-Jahre. Angefangen mit einem Vierspurrecorder, inzwischen mit Logic und Reason. Jeder Track bekommt zudem immer auch einen analgogen Touch durch klassische Instrumente und/oder Gesang.

Meine musikalische Prägung liegt tief in den 70ern, hat sich aber immer weiter entwickelt von Bob Marley, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Carlos Santana, Tangerine Dream, Gil Scott Heron, Maze, John Lord, Paco de Lucia, Al di Meola, Frankie goes to Hollywood, über Prince und Massive Attack, Mad Professor, Kruder & Dorfmeister zu Thievery Corporation und wieder zurück.

Auch die World Music, kulturell tief verwurzelte Musik aus Indien, den arabischen Ländern, dem Balkan, Südamerika ... hat mich immer fasziniert und beeinflusst. Vieles davon findet sich ja auch in der Chillout und Lounge Musik wieder. Hier tummeln sich inzwischen so viele kreative Musiker, das man keine Zeit mehr hat sich um den kommerziellen Mainstream zu kümmern, sondern lieber diese Perlen ausgräbt ;-)

In den letzten zwei Jahren habe ich mich wieder mehr den Reggae und DUB Welten gewidmet. Ich mag das Lebensgefühl dieser Musik und die Menschen, die davon inspiriert sind.
