Not Like That

Like "Move Your Moose," this is another one of the songs I wrote in the "clear light" period after a shroomy weekend with friends many years ago. I noodled around with the idea for a while -- though it mostly just lived in my notebook -- and finally produced a fairly simple, mostly garage rock version that I posted here on SC last year. 

In that time, of course, my favorite sounds and current musical obsessions have continued to evolve. And I'd like to think my skills have leveled up at least a little. So, I thought it would be fun to take a song from much earlier in my SC journey and reinterpret it -- or, at least, the most basic structure of it -- through my current lens. 

Basically, I'm covering my very slightly younger self. It's like Taylor's version except Taylor's doing Taylor's version of Taylor's original version and I'm both Taylors, so it's kind of a weird narcissistic spiral. It's Taylors all the way down. But the song is catchy and you know what? I think you'll like it. 

If the beginning doesn't grab you, give it a minute. Like the Oklahoma weather, it will change.

I woke up this morning...
Didn't know how I got home...
It was a birthday party last night...
I hope I kept my clothes on...
I haven't heard from anyone about things I may have done...
So I'll roll on through my day thinking we all just had fun... ohhhh boy... boozy Tuesday...


A little shot of tequila...
with a squeeze of lime...
A lick of salt... and a smile make it seem so damn devine... 
Until you wake up in the morning...
Looking for your car...
You realize your not home and you wonder where the hell you are... my... my....  my. my. my.


But then on Friday...
more clowning around...
seemed like a good idea when it all was going down...
until you got cuffed for fighting... 
in the hotels front lounge... 
They tossed you into that cop car with your feet and hands all bound...
You should have seen you screaming, as they dragged you out to the parking lot... oh man...
Sometimes life just schools you and helps you understand...
