Nate the Snake is a juvenile Eastern Hognose snake (Heterodon platirhinos).  This song explains the story of how he entered our lives, and some of the strange habits and natural history of this species.  

We had him as a pet through the fall and winter, but his picky disposition and appetite for amphibians made him better-suited to an outdoor existence.  This song was written and performed for his release on April 1, 2007.  In some circles, April Fool's day is now considered "Nate the Snake Release Day."
