HOUSE LEGENDS VOLUME 6 MOUSSE T CLASSICS REMIXES & PRODUCTIONS MIX BY DJ DS(FR)MASTER APRIL 7TH 2023

A remix I did for Mr Paul Simon.  Tim Skogen brings the beef, Andy Brown adds the sizzle, and I cooked it all til' it's tender in the middle.

Ham and Cake was born in the sunshine of Cabo, Mexico over lunch. A lunch of Ham and Cake. Multiple lunches of Ham and Cake. The team is Greg Schelander and Andy Brown of Minneapolis, MN...just down the road from Prince's famous Paisley Park. 

Greg is a chart-topping Producer with success in electronic productions, remixes, and original compositions with various artists and labels across genres throughout the 90's and early 00's. With daughter and homestead butting up against the realities of a shifting music business environment, he put his earphones on a shelf for a bunch of years, but kept the studio set up and functioning. And then his Ham met Andy's Cake, and they started to pickle a few musical cucumbers and found a new and exciting path for some creative and original fun.

Andy grew up near Toronto in the part of Canada that hangs down south of millions of Americans...Canada's phallic symbol equivalent of Florida. He spent (mispent?) his youth playing guitar of various styles backing rock, celtic, folk and blues bands through the late 80s and 90s. Like Greg, he found career and home took much of his time, and for a number of years the music was kept penned up in a small guitar room in his house. 

At a point in life where time, inclination, and mutual musical interests aligned with friendship and peculiar trips in an RV, Ham and Cake came to be in 2011. Early independent productions for others' music, including Paul Simon, as well as originals that are constantly poking at the boundaries of alternate and indie styles, Ham & Cake Productions is blazing new trails in the pursuit of simply making good music.

Greg has a passion for music and a drive for creative exploration which has taken him on a producing, writing and remixing adventure.

After he cut his first studio demo, in the back of a store front off Dale Avenue in St. Paul, MN., he received a call from a London based lawyer looking to buy his songs. “I began to think that maybe I needed to give this music production thing a little more thought”.

And that is what he did.

Greg's first release on the Beat Oven compilation, Yoda Mistress "Is This Real" featured the silky and soulful vocals of, Melodee who spent many years touring with Alexander O'Neal.

His 1st 12 inch single released in 1996, Superstitch "Come and Get Me", saw nationwide club play, peaking at #5 on the dance charts

In 1996-1998, Greg was signed to Stacey Castro's Hollywood, CA based, GroundWorks Music, a production and management company which led to remix work and also another successful 12 inch single, "(The) Kama Sutra", released on New York's Waako Records. This single went on to see much national and international club success as well as being a choice cut for several compilation CD's released by labels such as MCA Records. It was also selected to the initial voting rounds for the 40th Annual Grammy Awards.

From 2000-2005, Greg worked with producer and former Flyte Tyme Studios (Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis) guru, Jeff Taylor of Madjef Productions. Work included programming, mixing and producing sample CD's (EastWest Black Butta series) as well as other production and remix work for various artists. Also along with Madjef, producing, writing and programming tracks for DKG / Universal Music recording artists, KUSH and Rhian Benson. 

Greg also had licensed cuts for Bunim/Murray Productions series, Making The Band 2 & How To Live Like A Model on MTV.

On a whim in 2011, Greg decided to register for a producer showcase event in Minneapolis sponsored by New York based company, iStandard Producers. Out of the 50 plus applicants he was chosen as the #2 best producer for the event by a panel of industry judges. To quote JayZ / 50 Cent producer (and judge) Buckwild, “ahhh, what can I say”.

Today Greg continues his creative journey and exploration working out of his home based music production suite somewhere in Groovesalot, MN.
