It's the end of the Winter Bluntz Trilogy, Hoth style, takin' out AT-AT's. The victory lap on a Taun Taun, passin' you sucker ducks on land speeders… I just finished doing this mix, and I feel like I just entered the DMC for two hours straight, my brain is spent and I'm ready for that blunt.

Tribute mix celebrating Pete Rock & CL Smooth's masterpiece 'The Main Ingredient', which turned 30 recently.
'Mecca & The Soul Brother' is the more iconic/important album, but Main Ingredient slowly became my favorite over the years.....for a lot of the same reasons I lean to ATCQ's Midnight Marauders over Low End Theory.
Pete's production went from a harder/dusty sound on MATSB, to a warm/melodic vibe on TMI.  The samples Pete chose hit your soul in that sweet spot:  from Cannonball Adderley on 'In The House', to George Benson on 'I Get Physical' + 'In The Flesh', to Roy Ayers on 'Searching'....masterful.  Pair that with CL's smooth voice & flow, and your soul starts to vibrate....

Produced entirely by Da Beatminerz, the album's production style epitomises early 90s East Coast boom bap sonics with laid back, filtered jazz-funk samples meeting crunchy drums, cut choruses and gritty wordplay. In celebration of the anniversary we've teamed up once again with Wax Poetics magazine to present this exclusive mixtape pairing album tracks and remixes with their sample sources, interview snippets and more.
