Drift through deep space with Dark Matter, the new EP from South African producer Buli aka Shibule Ndhambi. Warped and often off-balance, the release plays with atmosphere and density to create an absorbing, disorienting experience. The 23-year-old beatmaker crafted the EP in his bedroom over the course of a few months in late 2018/early2019, infusing each track with a subatomic sonic energy.
 
“I was going through some stuff emotionally,” Buli explains. “It was a ‘dark’ period. It wasn’t super intense, but I was still going through the motions.”
 
Dark Matter feeds off antigravity and emits an electromagnetic shudder. Lead single “Uber to the Space Station” floats over a wavering groove, twisted and shaken-down – “…the most free I’ve felt working on a song,” Buli says. Dust covers the surface of “Lift Off” and “Where Are We” wanders through a vast and empty expanse. “Wrong Side of the Moon” shimmers with surreal beauty and sublime isolation between every breath.
 
The EP is a captivating glimpse of what is to come from the young producer, who has only recently discovered the infinite liberation of electronic experimentation. “I’m freed from all the ‘creative shackles’ I had put on myself…It feels like a new beginning for me.”
 
Dark Matter by Buli will be released via Alpha Pup on digital formats worldwide on June 28, 2019.
