One of the best series of records in 2013 was here in Los Angeles: HIT+RUN, the silkscreen crew who is a part of the musical fabric of the L.A. beat scene released seven small-run 7-inch vinyl singles to celebrate their 7th anniversary. Each single was filled with exclusive songs by 'mystery producers,' pressed on colored vinyl and housed in a screen printed jacket.  
 
And now, the 29 tracks have been compiled onto this very special double LP by Hit+Run called 777. Each of the records is pressed on one-of-a-kind two-color vinyl (red/blue, bone/gold). The LP cover art features a collage of all 14 screen printed "777" singles featuring self-portraits of each producer. 800 copies are being made.

The Masters of Ceremony is the first EP in a series created to fortify the cultural aspects of Hip Hop. We took it back to ground zero in creating these songs. The sole purpose of the MC is to energize, invigorate, and guide the listener to a higher state of mind, whether that be reflection, relaxation or enlightenment. This is the culture and not the business of Hip Hop, to serve as a tuning fork to the emotions, that we may contemplate our current state collectively and forge our collective destiny with heightened perspective. Juice Aleem touches down with the first single from his forthcoming late-arriving debut album “Jerusalaam”.

“First Lesson” does exactly what it says on the tin. Over a shuffling, chugging slice of classic Shadowless funk care of producer/MC Blackitude, Juice lays down the law to every wack MC, lame-ass trendy and posturing wannabe badman, throws in some foul thoughts and dirty deeds, before rounding things out with a sing-rap chorus of pop-itch catchiness.

But Juice has also rounded up a bunch of like-minds and fellow travellers for a truly fantastic remix package. Evil Nine kick things off with an electro-breaks epic that sounds like the best of Justice, only with a better lyricist! Next up grime/dubstep producer of the moment Rude Kid turns in a brutal, pummelling take on the original, all vicious synth lines and bouncing drum patterns. Longtime Aleem-associate, Big Dada podcaster, DJ and producer A La Fu steps up next with a mix which combines great shimmering curtains of spooky keys with shuddering bass. Finally Blackitude delivers the Shadowless Domain remix, which hints at dubstep crossed with Hong Kong action movies.

A superb package from a remarkable lyricist, this is the first of many lessons – lessons in doing it right, in caring about what you say and how you say it, in middle finger audacity and creative intelligence. Learning ain’t usually so much fun…
