1 - Back In The Day

On May 14th 2015 it is 75 years since the Rotterdam city centre fell victim to a vicious bombardment. In years to come, the people of Rotterdam stood and watched as allied air-fleets flew to and from Germany. Those fleets gave them hope. In the last days of the war, 70 years ago soon, as hundreds of people per week starved to death, occupying forces allowed the allied forces to conduct food sorties above the city. To the amazement of the hungry and starving people of Rotterdam, low flying allied planes dropped their welcome cargo.

These events constitute the core of the song The Sky over Rotterdam that BoB. The audio was recorded and fine-tuned by our able producer Lars. 
Using historical footage, BoB put together a video that visualizes the three main themes of the song: the burning city after the bombardment, allied fleets in the air and the dropping of food supplies.

The sky over Rotterdam is so peaceful now
But my old man, he still remembers how
That war made that sky such a restless place
And airplanes were never hard to trace
First them planes brought war, then they raised hopes high
And in the end, they dropped food from the sky

One morning in spring, German planes were all around
That brought their bombs, burnt our town to the ground
People ran for their lives, many trapped by the fire
And for five years to come, life would be harsh and dire

In years to come, allied planes would rule the air
And foreign towns, were handed the same nightmare
As people starved from hunger, in the Rotterdam streets
They often said a prayer, to support them allied fleets

Then one fine day, planes flew in really low
No bullets, no bombs, but food they let go
Never before, did the sun shine so bright
After five long years, people danced into the night

So here is our latest offering, and the first song recorded in our new line up, with Jasper singing and Wessel playing the banjo. It's a happy tune, celebrating the lifelong joy that music brings, from inception into old age. Enjoy!

The Pogo Never Stops

Far from reaching the levels of perfection achieved by the likes of the Pogues and Flogging Molly, the lads of Bunch of Bastards like to think they at least drink from the same source for inspiration.
Bunch of Bastards pay respect to their heroes by playing the odd song written by them. They also pick the odd traditional from the big book of traditional folk songs, not without genuinely spicing things up though. Or they twist and twist a song from outside folk till it sounds like full force folk.
But foremost, Bunch of Bastards aim at adding their self-penned stuff to the ever expanding number of songs that can be described as energetically melodic or melodically energetic.
Their songs deal with the downsides of life − remorse, illness, death, war and the arbitrariness of it all − as well as with life’s upsides: the blessings of love, music and alcoholic beverages. Either way, as one of their songs points out, “there is many a good reason to drink many a good ...... pint!”.
