The green album concluded Schnitzler's "monochrome" album series (red/1973, blue/1974 and yellow/1974/1981). Schnitzler's tracks in the 1970s were lengthy and shared a musical pattern which varied only minimally. Hence the green album has just one track on each side and any changes in melodic structure are subtle in nature. The borders between Schnitzler's creative periods are too nebulous to be sure that the green album represents the coda of his 70s music. Still, Schnitzler's musical essence of the decade is in evidence as aural concentrate on both tracks of the green album. Not, however, as a recapitulary review, but as a foundation, fertile ground in which his art would thrive in the decades which followed. Out on CD/LP/DL Nov 14, 2014

A double pack from Mammo, six tracks digging deep. General Patterns is the first time he’s released a record outside of his own constellation of labels and identities. Something new.

You can file this one under (dub) techno too if you like. Linked to the music he’s made as Puddlerunner last year in some ways, or the texture of tracks like Variable. It was compiled with Short Span following the completion of intense work on the ambient album Landmarks under his given name Fabiano, and quickly brought together an extended set of stripped back, patient, wonderfully rewarding sound. Really beautiful. Some mossy earthy texture, some starlit night skies.

Marking its 10 Year Anniversary, NYC-based record label Black Knoll reissues 'A Fragile Geography', the landmark ambient album from American producer Rafael Anton Irisarri - a spectral cartography of loss and reconstruction forged in the aftermath of devastation...Among its six windswept movements, 'Reprisal' is our pick. Feeling like a monochrome drift of processed resonance, the piece unfolds like a ghostly transmission filtered through decaying tape. Celestial resonances blur into low-end rumbles, choirs flicker beneath distant bells, drifting away memories of a past life. This is ambient music at its most human, like a slow dissolve into psychology's dimmest corners, where geography is no longer a place, but a feeling.
