Today on Line Noise, something of a Krautrock special as we speak to Wolfgang Seidel, the former drummer in Eruption, a group founded by (former Tangerine Dream and Kluster member) Conrad Schnitzler, that was once described as “a thinktank for the then explosive Krautrock scene”. Seidel is also the author of a new book: Krautrock Eruption – An Introduction To German Electronic Music 1970-1980, which I thoroughly recommend. Obviously, we spoke about Krautrock, its influences today, about alternative histories, Kraftwerk, capitalism and more. Having played his way through the 1970s in various rock combos (Medusa, Nine Days' Wonder), Michael Bundt embarked on a solo career in the latter part of the decade, going on to release three albums which saw him explore the vast potential of electronic music. Delightfullly varied and typical of his willingness to experiment, his music orbits around Krautrock, Berlin School electronica, space-futurism and synth pop. "Electri City" was his last album. Günter Schickert's debut "Samtvogel" (Brain 1975) and the follow-up "Überfällig" (Sky 1980) were two of the most significant guitar albums of the Krautrock era. His new album "Nachtfalter" carries on from these beginnings. Recorded during the scorching hot summer of 2018, "Nachtfalter" shows the pioneer of the echo guitar sound his very best. Here Schickert was assisted by Andreas Spechtl (Ja, Panik) who recorded the album and played the drums. They form a truly winning team: Spechtl selected the best moments of Schickert's guitar tracks, mixed them while also supplying some own loops. Out Feb 15, 2019
