Empress started on Kfm radio back in 2004, and has been involved with several local radio stations since. She has played at festivals such as Prana, Sundaise and Splore as well as many sound system dances and community events.

Empress is passionate about supporting artists and is an advocate for diversity and inclusion in the music scene.

Anaves Music presents "Free Your Mind", a 4-track EP featuring the incredible Italian-Senegalese singer Awa Fall (also known as Sista Awa). Strongly characterised by her powerful lyrics and interpretation, this release showcases reggae in a rootical stepper style including a vocals version, horns version plus two heavy dub versions by Bukkha and Vale. The track’s original version was composed by Austrian saxophonist Sabolious, who is also the label owner of Anaves Music. Furthermore, the release features nyahbinghi percussions played by I-Mitri Counteraction. Mastering has been done by Alpha Steppa, who gave this release a superb finish.

On this EP legendary Jamaican singer Fred Locks collaborates with Austrian producer and multi-instrumentalist Sabolious. In the context of recent global incidents of racial discrimination, the lyrics are in tune with the times and yet timeless. Musically, it is a dub production strongly affected by the steppers style. The collaboration’s final result is an EP with 6 songs, including saxophone and dub versions.

The Shady Lady AKA Carrie has been rocking dancefloors and airwaves all over Aotearoa since 2003, with her fresh blend of skank-based selections ranging from deep old Jamaican dubs through to rocksteady, tropical bass, dancehall, bouncy hip-hop and digital skank. Always keeping to the bass culture tip of things. 

Favouring outdoor parties with heavyweight speaker stacks, Carrie knows how to read a floor, mash up a sound and doesn’t shy away from dropping a few crowd-pleasers along the way.

Carrie says,‘Women are so underrepresented in the New Zealand music, festival, DJ and reggae scenes. We've got to keep pushing for equal representation in line-ups and actively create more opportunities for women to play their styles out there. So all the lil future DJ gyal dem can see us paving the way.’
