We’re two friends from opposite ends of the globe: Jeremy from New Zealand and Nik from the Netherlands. Body Ocean is us exploring dance music together. We met through drum & bass years ago, and became close friends when we realized we both loved a lot of the same things. We also love each others’ countries and culture; we’ve endured many long-haul flights exploring each others’ worlds.

As musicians, working on drum & bass for years, our curiosity grew towards different ends of the dance music spectrum. When we saw Green Velvet play and went to Dirty Bird parties respectively the vibe there was just so infectious that the music stuck its hooks in us. We realized there was an amazing sense of freedom there, which was reflected in the people on the dance floor. That musical freedom and ‘genre-agnostic’ attitude provided an exciting departure point for a journey of exploration. Much like at the start of an RPG game, where most of the map is still shrouded from view. Who will you be? What great discoveries await?

We’ve found influences in a multitude of sounds ranging from R&B to Eurohouse to Garage, and though we’re armed - or should we say burdened - with decades of production experience, this project is more about un-learning the rules than about technical one-upmanship. We want to let go of what we know and what is comfortable, we want to create new combinations and allow for as much eclectic experimentation as we can. We’re also intrigued to find a new expression of performance. To create euphoric high points and introspective low points on a dancefloor with a totally different aesthetic, and without the tropes we’re accustomed to.

To us, this project feels like the musical equivalent of rushing out onto the beach to dive headfirst into the rolling waves. Hence the name.

Wrapping up the year with another impressive collection of new music from some of house music’s rising stars and raw talents, Street Tracks Imprint Vol. 9 features a bumper six tracks of uplifting and deep 4/4 groovers.

ANZU delivers a fine disco powered, filtered funkster with ‘Time’, whilst Risque De Choc keeps with the ‘French touch’ style, flipping beats and slammin’ drums on the Roule inspired ‘Instrumental’.  Nonduality keeps affairs nicely rolling, with the tuff yet dreamy sounds of ‘Potential’, and Charlie Boon serves up a light and tropical heater with ‘Strictly Slunions’.

Two Hot Creations titans will team up with a renowned singer-songwriter next month, as Lee Foss, Detlef and Anabel Englund collaborate on the two-track Thunder & Lightning. Set for release on 20th November, the EP marks the trio’s debut collaboration and sees Lee and Anabel return to the label for the first time in six years.

Thunder & Lightning sets the tone, with hard-hitting drums residing atop a subtle underlying bassline. Anabel’s stunning vocals soon stir up feelings of intensity and resilience, before the infectious kick-hat backbone comes back in to form an emotive, dancefloor cut. I Have Synthed completes proceedings in a manner reminiscent of its title, featuring synth-heavy groove, acid-twinged bass and Anabel’s enigmatic vocals once more.

An eminent figure in Hot Creations’ musical history, USA mainstay Lee Foss has been a figurehead of contemporary house for nearly a decade. House heavyweight Detlef has amassed a worldwide following in a career spanning nearly a decade.
