With the recent passing of Mika Vainio, we share an early live recording from him with Panasonic (later known as Pan Sonic), the experimental group that he co-founded. The Finnish pioneer was an inspiration to many electronic producers and also produced solo material under his own name as well as Ø and Philus, amongst others. Jeff Waye invited Panasonic to play at a night in Montreal in 1996 and shares this story about the recording;
"Back in the early 90's myself and Linus Booth had started a record label, Discreet/Indiscreet Records. To launch one our releases by David Kristian we decided we needed one of our favourite groups Panasonic to come headline. With zero idea of how to throw an event, we somehow got two Finns and a bunch of gear over the border and set up at a closed down rap club (which fortunately hadn't had the PA stripped out). The power of being naive made for a great show. Afterwards went back to our place and listened to dub records with Mika, Ilpo, and Tommi Grunlond until sun came up and followed Pan Sonic right through their career from that point. Upon learning of Mika Vainio's passing and the ensuing nostalgia I remembered I had a DAT tape of that night. So here it is... Panasonic's set from that night in all its glory."

Solid Steel (12th May) In Hour 1 we welcome Trackstar the DJ, who is the tour DJ for Run The Jewels and is known for his prolific mixtape work. He has played hundreds of venues and dozens festivals all over the world, including Madison Square Garden, Coachella, and Glastonbury, where he returns with Killer Mike and EL-P on 24th June and Field Day on 3rd June. He told us;
 "Originally I had other plans for a more conceptual mix, but as I was telling The Gaslamp Killer about my ideas on our tour date in Belgium, he told me not to bother with any of them and instead do a mix displaying what he called "My Rare Appetite In Rap". I trust The Gaslamp Killer (as you should, too), so I immediately switched gears and started putting together a playlist of songs from the last half-decade or so that I love that many rap fans may have missed. It features some names you'll recognize as well as some that you may not… Hopefully you enjoy these tunes as much as I do, and maybe pick up a new favorite artist or two.”
