NelliQ - real name Nela - is a DJ from the Czech Republic, specifically the city of Liberec. She started her journey in the legendary Spot Club before being adopted by the Monkey Boom crew and joining their collective. Since Covid she’s also been collaborating with Bass Portal. She’s played some of the biggest DnB festivals in Europe, including Darkshire and Let It Roll, showcasing her signature deep rolling style.

Welcome to the latest episode of Burton Bass Takeover Episode 17.

This one is a special.

Today’s mix comes from a true local legend, DJ & selector P-One. 
Phil has been active in the scene longer than I’ve been alive, DJing before I was even walking. Through pure coincidence, we crossed paths not long ago, and it felt only right to put together a dedicated Takeover episode around his time of the year.

We’ve missed a few episodes this year, but we’re back on track now – and there’s a lot more music coming very soon.

For this episode, P-One delivers 28 carefully selected tracks, featuring the likes of Bruk Rogers, Selecta J-Man, Crystal Clear, Ego Trippin, Major Lazer, Dub Head – and many many more.

The Beat Broker began producing/DJing in San Francisco in 2000 as part of the duo   Broker/Dealer which released singles for Traum, Spectral Sound (Ghostly) and Asphodel. Later venturing off on solo productions and into the cosmic disco edit/remixes genres which later turned into demos and released on labels such as Bear Funk, @flexx-records, @adultcontemporary and @sentrall. The Beat Broker also has been running the website @the-dream-chimney, a community that has been a long standing source for daily musical recommendations and more recently known for its weekly guest DJ mixes.

What the future holds? Or what projects you're possibly working on, future releases, etc.

I'll have some new tracks out on @sentrall later this year as well as 4 track @aordisco2 edits record coming out soon on @universalcave. More on @americanstandardrecords as well as a brand new track out soon on the label Public Release (@eug) from SF. Also trying to finish up some tracks for a Bear Funk follow up album.

Your favorite tracks/releases at the moment?

All the ones in this mix! Also including the entire new @body-san album. I've been listening to "Future Disc" by Sasac (@ultraultra) and "The Colours of Life" by @cfcf albums often right now too. All latest releases on @aficionado-recordings and @antinote-records are on repeat. 

And your favorite city and possibly a place in that city (club, park, restaurant, etc.) and why ?

I don't get out of SF too much since I've moved here in 98, so it has to be my favorite by default, but to make this more interesting I'll say Ogden, Utah since I just got back from there playing at the beautiful Fort Buenaventura Park. Had an awesome breakfast at Karen's Out West Cafe.

Our resident midnattssoula is back after almost 3 months of absence. The bpm drops even more this time as the mix starts at around 102 and ends at 112. Personally he named the mix 'Golden autumn serenades' as it's original launch date should've been 2 weeks later than now, but we think it still works as good for the late summer as for early autumn. Having tastefully crafted their tropical cocktail in slightly ironic surroundings (in the midst of a bleak German winter), their debut single, Déjà Vu quickly found a natural home on Mark Barrott's acclaimed Balearic imprint, International Feel. Released in March 2015 to much acclaim, Déjà Vu / Freefalling premiered on BBC1xtra, before being awarded a 9/10 review in Mixmag (UK). The vinyl sold out in a matter of weeks before a repress in July of last year. After a live debut at leading Berlin nightclub Prince Charles during Beatport Live’s streaming event, follow-up single Paralysed premiered on BBC Radio 1 before becoming Disco Single of the Month in Mixmag Germany and DJ Mag Italy’s Disco ‘Money Shot’ in November 2015. In February 2016, the band launched Nightshift; a residency at Berlin's Farbfernseher nightclub and their own imprint, from which their latest single, Full Moon (which featured remixes from Ichisan and Cazzo Pazzo - a side project of Andy Butler of Hercules & Love Affair) was the first release, securing airplay on Radio 1 and being championed by a host of leading DJs including Dave Harvey, Luke Solomon & Massimiliano Pagliara.
With a string of remixes and releases penned for labels as varied as Mark Jones' iconic Wall of Sound to exclusive, vinyl-only imprint Tusk Wax, Private Agenda are swiftly proving to be an act as comfortable in the depths of Berlin's underground as amongst pop's leading lights on commercial radio.

We're finishing off lots of new music at the moment:  preparing the second release that'll come out on Nightshift Records, finishing up an EP and the full length LP along with planning our next Nightshift parties in Berlin!

Your favourite releases at the moment?

I just checked out Eddie C's new LP on Endless Flight - really beautiful record, James Booth's new record on Church is amazing as are the Sfire remixes on
Emotional Especial/Cocktail d'Amore. Even though I first heard the tracks in February, I also still can't get enough of Selvy's Pops EP for new label, No Bad Days - one of the best of this year for sure.

Your favourite city and possibly a place in that city (bar, restaurant, park, record shop, club, etc.)

Berlin's our favourite city - we feel very fortunate to call it home. The list of inspiring and beautiful places could be pretty endless, but a perfect day out would involve a trip to Record Loft, sipping on an apertif at Cafe Futuro before rumbling onto Griessmuehle, one of our favourite clubs in the city.

Our resident midnattssoula is exploring the midtempo range where he's been feeling very comfortably lately and this is somewhere between 108-115 bpm. The mix reflects various forms and shapes of mainly disco and takes you on a journey which spans across 4 decades. Clandestino are a trio of DJs, promoters and producers from Leeds, UK. @joemorris, @nickjsmith and @iain_mac have been involved in the city’s underground music scene for over 15 years; regularly throwing diverse parties and inviting exciting DJ talent. While not pinned to one particular sound, their vibe takes influences from the glory days of Acid House and the melodic elements of Balearica; sounds that are then caringly wrung through their leftfield filter.
Now starting to become in demand themselves, Clandestino have a enjoyed a string of releases to date for Tronik Youth’s Nein Records imprint, Yam Who?'s Midnight Riot Records, Is it Balaearic? Recordings and plus their own recently launched vinyl imprint. A steady gig schedule over the last few years has seen them become regular fixtures on the festival circuit with well received spots at Electric Elephant Festival in Croatia, Festival N°6, Mint Festival and Alfresco Festival. 2016 has so far proved the busiest to date taking them around the UK and to shows in Paris, Geneva and London plus their own infrequent parties in their home town of Leeds.
The monthly Clandestino show on KMAH Radio is deemed essential by many and showcases their inimitable style with aplomb and a dash of humour. Clandestino’s podcast series is revered world wide; with regular mixes from high calibre guests such as Andrew Weatherall, Jennifer Cardini, JD Twitch/Optimo (Espacio), Eddie C, the Beat Broker, Zombies in Miami, Les Yeux Orange and many more including ourselves.

Episode #032 midnattssoula x Clandestino

1st hour, guest mix: @localsuicide

Berlin-based DJ duo and couple Brax Moody (Munich) and Vamparela (Thessaloniki) have been collaborating together since 2007, either as a DJ duo, in bands, or as remixers and music producers. Merging the rhythm and dynamism of Munich’s hip-hop clubs with the grime and attitude of Thessaloniki’s back-alley indie bars gives an idea of how to categorize Local Suicide: a straight-up energetic fusion of new wave, slow techno, post disco, acid house or as they like to call it “technodisco”.
As DJs they’ve played all over Europe, Asia, North Africa, South America and the US with gigs at Lollapalooza, Melt Festival, Amsterdam Dance Event, Off Sonar, Berlin Festival and almost every club the German capital has to offer whilst holding down day jobs in the music industry and running one of the top 10 independent music & lifestyle blogs in Germany (www.localsuicide.com) with 30+ international editors. Rest assured that these two have honed their musical tastes and chops.
Having organized parties, festivals, and moderated radio shows for years, Local Suicide are just as much at ease inside the booth as they are outside. June 2014 saw them release their debut single “We can go everywhere” on Bordello A Parigi alongside remixes from In Flagranti, Richard Rossa and Iñigo Vontier. The release has been supported by XLR8R, THUMP, DJ Mag, Mixmag, De:bug amongst many others and We can go everywhere adds a major stone to the duo’s path to major world disco take-over.
“Owl & Wizzle“ which they produced with Rodion in his vintage synth studio in Berlin that features MZ SUNDAY LUV on vocal duties was released in June 2016 on Multi Cultii‘s first Compilation after being premiered on THUMP. It quickly reached the top 30 Beatport Indie/Nu disco Charts and was heading the Juno balearic/downtempo charts for a month. In July 2016 the duo released a remix for Digitalism (also co-produced with Rodion) on [PIAS] Cooperative. In January 2017 a remix by My Favorite Robot of a track by Rodion & Local Suicide was released on My Favorite Robot Recordst‘ annual winter compilation which got praised by DJ Mag (7,5/10) and Faze Magazin (9/10) among others. On August 25, 2017 the duo is releasing another 12” EP with Rodion on My Favorite Robot Records with Remixes by Moscoman, Fairmont and Los Mekanikos.

Episode #042 Local Suicide x Svengãlik

1st hour, guest mix: @max-essa

Max Essa has been active as a DJ and producer since the early 90s, initially releasing music on labels such as Warp Records and paperecordings and DJing alongside the infamous D.i.Y Sound System.
His most recent work, for labels like Is It Balearic..? Recordings, has been play-listed by the likes of Andrew Weatherall and the late David Mancuso, gaining him a devoted following around the world.
2015 saw his first release with a major label in the shape of the ‘Vacations Never Taken’ CD for Victor Entertainment (ビクター/JVC) (Japan). The same year also found him completing another round of world-wide DJ bookings in Brazil, Indonesia, and Vietnam to name but a few.
2017 sees Max continuing his hectic weekly DJ schedule in Tokyo as well as playing the length and breadth of Japan from Sapporo to Okinawa, and releases are scheduled (and already has been released earlier this year) for Eskimo Recordings, HELL YEAH recordings!, Palms & Charms, and Is It Balearic?
Sekko Mekko EP (Including a remix from Craig Bratley) is set to be released in early October on Is it Balearic? and you will have a chance to hear the one of the tracks from this EP in midnattssoula's mix.
Also Max revives his own Jansen Jardin (@jansen-jardin-tokyo) label from long hibernation and it will soon feature a very limited cassette release 'Some Backland Plaza' by Karel Arbus & Eiji Takamatsu. Available only through Jansen Jardin bandcamp for all true diggers and enthusiasts, so don't sleep and grab it will it's there!

We're extremely happy as we celebrate the release of our 50th jubilee episode and with whom better to celebrate it than with Lithuania's number 1 party maker - Manfredas!
Manfredas needs no lofty introductions. Suffice to say that he’s the most charismatic guy behind the decks in Lithuania, he’s also one of the main driving forces of underground scene in our home country and he’s also the most successful musical export from our tiny Baltic state. 
SMALA (@smalasmala) party series that Manfredas runs together with his mates 12 INČŲ PO ŽEME became synonymous with Vilnius’ quality night life for a fair number of years. These parties are always packed and glowing in red, continue way into the morning and hosted uncountable number of world class stars of the scene already. Most likely these are the reasons that Autarkic said ‘Opium club is still the best club in Europe’ after his gig in Vilnius last week. 
Manfredas affiliates himself with Ivan Smagghe’s @lesdisquesdelamort label his latest musical affair where Lithuanian folk song ‘Dolijute’ is sung by girls from Tel Aviv will hit the shops very soon courtesy of Red Axes family label @garzen-records.
