Plaid 2014 DJ MIX 01

In Hour 2 we have a double-header of a mix starting with special guest Matt Berry, well known for his appearances in The IT Crowd, The Mighty Boosh and more recently Toast of London. He's also a musician in his own right with several albums under his belt, the latest being 'Music For Insomniacs'  where he channels the synthesised soundscapes of Vangelis and Mike Oldfield. There's no track list as he's currently recording the next series of Toast but he plugs into musicals like Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds and Jesus Christ Superstar, soundtrack work by John Carpenter & Alan Howarth and pop from Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan and Kate Bush.
Following in his wake is DJ Food with the first installment of a new mix series called Magpie Music which focuses on distorted drums, fuzz bass and the more psychedelic side of his current tastes. Expect music from The Soundcarriers, Pond, tUnE-yArDs and the Osmonds plus unreleased gems from Mophono and The Group Modular.

Ginger Jumps the Fence

In Hour 2, DK takes a look back at some of the releases in 2014 from the Ninja Tune family of labels, kicking off with two Big Dada heavyweights from Run The Jewels and Wiley, plus label mates Kate Tempest and the Mercury Prize winning Young Fathers. There's music from artists playing at the massive Ninja Tune x Hydra party on Saturday 6th Dec, with Machinedrum, The Bug, Actress, Martyn, Illum Sphere, Falty DL and headliner Bonobo, plus plenty of remixes from the likes of Four Tet, Budgie, Lone, Eprom, Max Graef and Seven Davis Jr. Brainfeeder is represented by Teebs, Taylor McFerrin, Daedelus and Mr Oizo, whilst Kutmah and Name Brand Sound fly the flag for Technicolour, and Nick Hook, Romare and Beat Spacek make up the current crop of releases on Ninja Tune.

Solid Steel Radio Show 5/12/2014 Part 3 + 4 - DK

Solid Steel (26th December) The votes have been counted and the listeners choice of Solid Steel 'Mix of the Year 2014' goes to Clap! Clap!, with runners up Maribou State, Catching Flies and Matt Berry. Congratulations to Aanand Davé, who was the lucky winner of the Ninja Tune prize and here once again are the most popular mixes.

Catching Flies opens the second half. The London producer already has a few acclaimed EP's and remixes under his belt and supported Bonobo on his European tour this year. His mix opens with Chick Corea, Kazi on Stones Throw, Jon Hopkins and the Moods remix of his track 'Sunrays' from The Stars EP. Then it's into Letherette, Dirg Gerner, Caribou and his beautiful collaboration with Ifan Daffyd.
