This was my online contest submission, an interpretation of an "alternative dance" re-mix of "When The Sky Bleeds, He Will Come, right here..." by Gary Numan 

And, I was delighted and blown away that my Gary Numan/Sound Cloud contest submission advanced past the first round of judging. Although, it did not win the contest, It was a blast to be a participant and to test myself.

A Summer Rain

"buskerJohnnie" is a self produced, gigging musician & vocalist, who has worked in tv & film, acted, danced, & hosted a college radio vinyl show. Johnnie has an online store, selling his own music, arts, & Florida lifestyle inspired graphic designs, promoting the "buskerJohnnies” brand on CafePress.com. Johnnie works as a street performer in the Tampa area, is a band member in two local community bands, “subs” as a tenor sax & flutist in two local big bands. and gigs with other local musicians, including local recording artist, “Manic Organica” when called upon.

Biography: 
John Walker, raised in Tampa, Florida. “buskerJohnnie" a.k.a. "Johnnie" had his 1st "paid gig", just out of high school, when he & two school buddies formed the punk band "King Rat", on a dare from a lady bartender at the local post punk/biker bar, the "Buffalo Roadhouse”, performing several weeks, on weeknights, at the place. The “Buffalo Roadhouse" was a popular dive, booking many of Tampa Bay 's best local punk & alternative bands, as well as regional acts. Johnnie’s stint in “King Rat” as punk keyboardist & alto saxophonist was short, as Johnnie was called into basic, when his delayed entry status ended. 

Johnnie was stationed on the west coast, where he spent one enlistment in the military, then moved back to Tampa. When Johnnie got out, he moved in with his young wife, a Tampa woman he dated,  and married before being deployed overseas. A few years later, their marriage ended. And soon after, Johnnie was back in his family home and enrolled at Hillsborough Community College. 

Soon, Johnnie found work as "Security" at the "Masquerades Danceteria" in Ybor City, a progressive club, which showcased local, national, international bands, including; Alien Sex Fiend, Nine Inch Nails, All, Big Chill Car, Front Line Assembly, Gwar,  Flock of Seagulls, 900Ft. Jesus, Sanctuary, Mortuary, TKC, and later the Smashing Pumpkins, to name a few! 

Johnnie worked at the now legendary club up to the night it was raided & shut down, due to the historic old building being condemned, by Tampa Code Enforcement, for political reasons.

By the time the dance club reopened, a year later, ...  Johnnie had moved on to playing an alto sax & flute, earning college spending money, by performing on Franklin St. Pedestrian Mall in downtown Tampa, at night, and on weekends. Johnnie was Tampa’s first regularly working street musician, performing regularly in front of the historic Tampa Theater & CDB's Uptown -Italian Restaurant, across the street. And ocassionally, he performed in front of the TB Performing Arts Center, although the crowds at the TBPAC were too small, to keep him coming back, a time before, the big Broadway shows were brought to Tampa, by CEO Judy Lisi.

By the summer of 1992, and due to slashed funds to college grants & loans,  Johnnie decided to take a break, removed his savings, a total of $500, and to go on a vacation trip to Paris, France! There, Johnnie stayed with a friend, & earned spending money to eat & sightsee on, by playing his alto sax around the streets of Paris, over the course of his 3 week stay. 

On his next to last day in Paris, Johnnie met a couple from Holland, who invited him to extend his vacation & stay with them, and earn his way back home to Florida, by performing on the streets of Holland. After some convincing, Johnnie accepted their offer & went with the couple to Emeeloord, Holland. After several weeks & attempts to earn money to afford a trip home, Johnnie took a bus trip to Amsterdam, where the couple believed Johnnie would have success earning enough money to save for a trip home to Florida. 

On his second day in Amersterdam, Johnnie met Darko & Misha, two classical guitarists, sitting on a park bench in Wondelpark playing, Johnnie recognized the tune, and asked if they wanted to form a trio & work the terraces together. They agreed. Johnnie fronted the mosty jazz & latin trio as they worked the local busking circuit. 

On several nights, Johnnie stayed at the "Sleep In" Hostel, in Amsterdam, there, one night, Johnnie was asked to sit in on alto sax, during a live Dutch radio broadcast of a jazz jam session in the Sleep In's pub. After which, an artist handed Johnnie a pen & ink sketch he had done on the back of a Dutch beer coaster, of Johnnie as he played, as a token of appreciation for his playing.

Also, Johnnie’s picture wound up on the front page of the local Amsterdam newspaper, as he performed solo, in front of a cafe in Rembrandt’s Plein, as Darko & Misha had taken the day off! 

Rembrandt’s Plein is where Johnnie met saxophonist Candi Dulfer, before she went on tour in 1992, promoting her album. Johnnie spent the rest of the summer & fall in Amsterdam, performing in the dynamic trio at house parties, book and flea markets, birthday parties, etc... as their popularity on the streets, landed them more paid gigs. In October, the terraces closed as Dutch winter came in the course of one night, so Johnnie returned home to Tampa a few days later.

Soon, Johnnie wrapped up his music studies at HCC & transferred into the University of Tampa, where he continued taking music classes, and expanded his studies to include voice lessons, acting, musical theater, and dance, while hosting his own vinyl show as a dj & founding member of UT’s newly resurrected & reformatted station, WUTZ radio in 1997. Johnnie wrote the constitutiion that was approved, for WUTZ Radio's relisting as an on campus student organization. 

After graduation in 1997, Johnnie landed a job, a few months later, at WAMi-TV, USA Broadcasting’s flagship station on Lincoln Rd. on S. Beach in Miami, as a Promos Department Assistant & Station Runner. Six months later, Johnnie was Associate Producer for USAB’s Group Promotions & Maketing Department, working with Regional Emmy and Gold & Silver ProMax award winning Producers of WAMi-TV, Johnnie had to give notice and leave WAMi-TV to return to Tampa Bay, to file for a second divorce, this time from an HCC alum, he met & married while finishing up his college undergrad.

Before leaving WAMi-TV, Johnnie asked to be transferred to HSN, to remain an employee of USAB, as HSN was a sister station of WAMi-TV, and under the USA Networks banner. Johnnie worked at HSN, as a Scenic Technician assembling & errecting the sets & props for celebrities such as Suzanne Summers, Susan Lucci, and many others. After just over a year, Johnnie decided to give notice & returned to HSN as a free lance Scenic Technician and freelancer, working as a Personal Assistant, to the on-air talent, of a product vendor show on HSN, assisting & working with the host on live set. 

Johnnie worked with the product vendor, until his transportation began to break down, which made it difficult to continue the commute across the bay to St. Petersburg. 

During that time, early in 2000, Johnnie began performing as an Alto Saxophonist again, when he was not working at HSN. This time, he took up the Tenor Sax, for the first time, and began sitting in on Jam sessions & classes at his alma maters, HCC, ...all which lead to Johnnies return to working as a street performer on the streets of Tampa and Ybor City, after finally giving up his PA position for the HSN product vendor.  

A few years later, Johnnie became a business partner, opening Corcovado Coffee & Jazz, a small coffee shop, which hosted live local jazz acts, and closed it's doors after a year, due to a lack of revenue & traffic, due to road construction nearby. 

Since, Johnnie has worked for himself and as a musician exclusively, since 2000.
