Do you still watch the tube? Or get your information from the "news"? I mean, sometimes you just gotta smash your fucking faces on a brick wall to wake up. Gotta wipe them cobwebs away with a rake. It always getsya in the gotcha when your words they take, outta context and syntax and pretty soon you're hosin' 'em down with anthrax and listenin' to it on the boombox with Jimmy and The Chicken Fucks. Shit outta luck, with a lame duck, eatin' porridge and such and Billy broke his ass in the morning. It's only forewarning. Screaming loud in your ears amidst their chortles and jeers and you all the while thinking, "WTF?"
Fools tryin' to get you to back down and ease off on the oppressors who are crushin' all of us, and you just wonderin' when the fuck they're gonna rip off the old blinders and catch on up. E.T. phone home, and other melancholy metaphors. It's happened all before...man rebelling against God. Cut loose like a duece, another runner in the night. On the run lookin' for love and finding a steady stream of hate, like egg on yer face. No man can save himself. Can it be any more obvious? Build your sense of self-worth on what others say, and it will be a cold day indeed when the opinion sways. You're so fuckin' vain, you probably think this is about you and shit. But as always, I'll be my own worse critic and speak to my inner demons as I wish. It's a dish that ain't so delish, but there's always rat and cat meat in the pie when you're sacked under siege and things get real. The challenge of the soul on fire is to take it there.

The line, "Impossibly powerful spiritual pressure" was copped from a Japanese-to-English anime one of the band's two fans, Rikkety Schnitzel, used to watch. Sal thought it apros pros and incorporated it into a song describing the state of his soul at the time.
A hate-filled soul named Dondo that The Great Garbonzo lived with at the time described it as carnival music. Well, if the shoe fits...

What started out as a simple guitar piece by Satchell in Sal's basement on a warped, out-of-tune guitar, morphed into a monstrosity of over twenty tracks, many of them vocals. Among the oddities, there is a track of Himalayan throat singing (at the end) and one of running water which was recorded holding a mic up to the PVC septic pipe in Sal's basement.  

Inspired by the ancient work referred to a 1Enoch as well as the work of those such as Barry Fell.

Song Five shows the individual's conclusions about the status of the world around him after digging into the bloated underbelly of the beast. Pretty self-explanatory stuff. However, it must be clarified that the one line about how the earth is now a piece of ham frying in the frying pan does NOT refer to what the individual believes to be the pseudo-scientific hoax of global warming/climate change. The individual thinks there IS climate change going on, but that it is not caused by CO2 and global warming is the cover story for what's really going on. The line refers instead to the general state of the world in the socio-political and spiritual senses.

Prune Juice - 01 - Ignorance Is Bliss

 The story of Busted Ass is a short and troubled one. Active for nearly two years betwixt June of '06 and March of '08 (although some recording continued sporadically through 2010), the Ass toured the small-town-Wisconsin VFW circuit as a three man circus sideshow act under the pseudonym "Jimmy and the Twilights". 
Needless to say, their music and message went over like a fart in church. The boys from Busted Ass soon discovered that old crusties soppin' up drink and polishin' their war medals are loathe to hear "punk bitches" squawk about the calamitous path our society is treading like a whore in cleats.
 If you can imagine singing "Ode to the Human Bitch of Any Gender" to liquored up old rednecks, you may begin to imagine the hostility and verbal abuse routinely dumped on the band on a nightly basis. Sal absorbed the brunt of it, as all frontmen do, but when the old sots noticed that he seemed to enjoy it and even kind of thrived on their derision, (not-so-coincidentally, "Ribbets on the Moon" suddenly appeared amongst the band's nightly staples during their gigging peak, usually as the closing, "encore" number) they started spreading the insults around. One night, after a surly old drunk poured a glass of Schlitz on his lap and called him a young cunt, Satchell Adams threw down his drumsticks in disgust and said, "Fuck this shit!"
 
 After taking some time off to rethink their individual places in the world, Sal Magnum went down and sprung Satch from the nice clean room and fuzzy slippers he had going for him at the psych ward. Can you say, comeback? But it was not to be. The bid was stymied when word reached headquarters that the third member of the outfit, guitar virtuoso, Garbonzo The Great, had gone on the lam after a brutal bar fight at Slurpy Herpes Jungle of Love Bar and Grill.
 
 For a brief while, Sal and Satch struggled on without Garb and his much needed talent. Without Garb there to hold him in check, Sal became tyrannical and single-minded in his vision. Such is the way genius often works, but it does not bode well for friendships or any other sort of mutual understanding. Not to mention that no one else seemed to think of it as genius. Sal's bitter rants and other such woeful rubbish the band put forth during this timeframe seemed to most to be merely the drippings of a cynical and misanthropic little soul.
 
 Always longing to put forth his own vision, one of skipping through the daisies and holding hands instead of all the doom and gloom hoorah, Satchell Adams finally had his fill and set about making good on a long-voiced threat to rejoin his old band. He had pounded the skins for "Patilyn Patson and the Spooky Apes" previous to his stint with The Ass, and went back to them under the condition that Patilyn Patson, a twitchy junky with an uninspired mind, be relegated to "guitar only" duties and that Satch be given full reigns concerning creative control. 
When one of Sal's frail vocal chords ripped like a wet tissue, the deal was sealed. The Ass was no more. Another defunct project on the waste heap of Human Achievement. 
 The following is a bulletin put out by their manager during the last days of the group:

 Now-- Over at Busted Ass--

 Last known recording of Sal Magnum, who was brutally forced into hiatus after spraining his coccyx and rupturing a vocal cord in the dry, wintry air while trying to perform Simonesque vocals for a piece known simply as, "Flower Child's Lament."
 This is trully a grim period for the faux-clandestine musical collaboration known to many insiders as simply "The Ass". This unfortunate turn of events marks the second crippling departure from the collective in recent memory, as lead guitarist and group baker/botanist, Lenny Terrestrian, a.k.a., "The Great Garbonzo," was driven into virtual retirement after a lengthy and vicious battle with the old inner demons concerning such grave and terrible matters as of that of the inner soul and the inner soul on fire.
 He is rumored to have disappeared underground after savagely slaughtering a man outside a local dive who was getting drunk and lippy. It was apparently a remarkable sight and caused the poor victim's homies to scatter like chaff in the wind.
 Last known contact from the Terrestrian was a message left on the machine at headquarters to the effect of, "Garb here, boys. Shit has got deep, uh, I'll be gotdamned if I'll sit on account of those assholes! Keep the homefires burning and maybe we'll meet again. It's time to hunt or be hunted. See you lay-tuh." He was barely audible over the cranked volume of what sounded to the trained ear suspiciously like New Order's "Bizarre Love Triangle" (extended dance mix) shrieking over the din of a flesh parlor.
 According to the police bulletin, "Suspect should be considered armed and dangerous." So that's good. We certainly wish him the best.
 So there you have it. Yibbity-yabbity-yibbity-yip, that's all folks!

About the name:
 The name, "Busted Ass", much like many of the group's lyrics, is fraught with ambiguous definitions. There is no "right" answer to what it is supposed to mean. Sal used to always say that it was the past tense to "bustin' ass" for the system. A kind of crass expression of opposition to corporate wage slavery. To most, it was merely the metonym for "broke dick".
 "It may just be homage to Garb's bad ass gas during rehearsals and performances, come to think of it." Sal was quick to add when reached for comment. "That man could lay the foulest stench on you known to man-- on que, too. Right at critical junctures when you were all trying to hone in on the harmonies or tricky chord progressions-- it was brutal."

About this album (Prune Juice):
The album you have before you has been called many things, not many of them complimentary. Even its given titles have been numerous. An early version of the group's works bore the name, Funnel & Sponge. (A tribute to societal, and especially, television indoctrination, i.e., the lyrics to a period piece called Far Too Far, "We have forgotten what it is to be human, we have become like the machines we rely on. Everything runs on zeros and ones, they are the funnel, you are the sponge.")

 After Garbonzo's departure, an album of numbers featuring only Satchell and Sal appeared called, Jargon (not at all the same grouping of songs as those featured on the playlist by the same name on this page). Shortly thereafter, an attempt was made to compile the band's entire body of finished work. It was fittingly titled, The Complete Works of Arse. Problem was, it was in no way complete. 
After the band's demise, the catalog was revised and resequenced numerous times under the names: Scraping The Taint; Blood From The Turnip; and finally, Prune Juice. 

 Everything the band managed to record was done either by chinsy microphone or instrument plug-in straight into a crappy old KORG. The machine had been purchased used by Satchell and proved to be quite baffling to a group of unschooled paupers. Many times it would seize up inexplicably during crucial moments of divine inspiration like it had a devil. The Great Garbonzo was the first to crack its code. Later, Sal was in charge of "producing" and recording. The results are interesting, to say the least. Some find the production to be endearing, others find it amateurish and a mockery. An open mind is recommended and a choice blunt helps. For the maximum experience, try locking yourself in a dark room and listening to it on a pair of quality headphones. It is recommended to turn the volume up a click or two higher than you would normally for standard, over-slicked, sound-blasting, commercial tripe. Keep your ears and your third eye open. Enjoy.
