Busy Patching

Patch Notes: 

Assigning modulation from a hardware MIDI controller in the latest version of the new MFX motto multi-effects plugin, available now for iPad from the App Store. 

‘MFX motto’ is a multi-effects plugin from ALM Busy Circuits, which brings the much lauded FX engines from our ‘MFX’ Eurorack Module, Guitar Pedal and Desktop plugins now to the iPad with the unique ability to now chain multiple effects.

Here, the MFX motto is loaded into AUM to process the Motto Akemie, sequenced by the Korg Nanokey which is also configured in AUM to send MIDI CCs to the MFX motto. From the new modulation page of the MFX motto, specific parameters of the 2051 Bit Corrupter are set as modulation destinations, allowing the Nanokey sliders to control them.

Creating a synth voice using 3 resonant analog filters in series from the MCFx2 and Pip Filter.

In modular synthesis, starting with traditional basic patches and building on them is a great way to discover exciting new sounds and get the most out of a system. This unique expansion of the traditional single oscillator analog synth voice patch with 3 filters in series allows for 3x the amount of filter modulation, producing rich moving timbres using only a single oscillator. Similar techniques of can be used with multiple filters in parallel or panned in stereo to add unique modular richness character to a basic voice patches.

Patch Notes: 

Bright liquid tones using the CIZZLE’s unique resonance wave processed through dual resonant high pass filters from the MCFx2.

The Osc B output of the CIZZLE is run into the left filter input of the MCFx2 (normaled to the right), with each filter’s high pass output patched to the MFD acting as a stereo VCA. The Shape control of the CIZZLE is swept manually, then modulated by a slow unipolar triangle wave from the Pip LFO. The filter Cut Off of both high pass filters is then increased, producing bright liquid tones as they process the CIZZLE’s sweeping resonance wave. A bipolar sine wave from the Pip LFO is added to modulate the Cut Off, creating complex morphing multi-peak tones. Finally, the Osc B frequency is lowered 2 octaves, shifting the tones into formant territory.

The ‘Turismo’ is well suited for sequencing beats and groove box style patching but fits equally well into less structured environments. Here we explore realistic environmental sound design, making use of the Turismo’s plethora of utilities and interesting sound shaping capabilities to create a custom environment with rain and thunder sounds entirely synthesized by the system.

For this December edition, Delphine Demord and Peinturalo recorded a mix together, live, like a two-hour collage with: current favorites, discoveries, and personal classics placed side by side. 

Delphine brings her post-punk and noise rock impulses : tracks she hadn’t had the chance to play with someone in a long time. Peinturalo shares what she listens to while painting and throughout her days: lots of German, Belgian, and UK 80s sounds, and songs she doesn’t always manage to play at night in front of a dancefloor.

The selection also echoes the strange, psychedelic landscapes Clara paints, with shifting moods and unusual colors. It’s a joint selection where their tastes naturally respond to each other. Simply the pleasure of playing music together for the first time.

Building and tweaking a custom FX chain with reverb, phase shifting, compression, delay, auto-pan, chorus and pitch shifting inside the MFX motto, our new multi FX plugin for iPad.

‘MFX motto’ brings the much lauded FX engines from our ‘MFX’ Eurorack Module, Guitar Pedal and Desktop plugins to the iPad with the unique ability to chain up to 11 effects. ⛓️

Here, the MFX motto is loaded into AUM to process the Motto Akemie, with the QuaidraVerb, Multi Phaser, TY-50 Dynamics, Digi-PCM Echo, Modulating Panner and Ensembles Ensemble switched on and layered in a custom FX chain. Parameters are tweaked and FX are switched on and off to produce one of a kind, layered FX processing.
