Jason (Aphasic) somehow thought, and convinced me (back in the day before an instant Google search could verify these sort of things...) that 'warren' was an old slang word for South London.
However, the true meaning of the word 'warren' is an old abbr. of 'cunny warren' a double entendre for a brothel. Now you know.

Produced on an 8-bit Amiga 1200 computer with 4MB of RAM using the OctaMED tracker program (which gave you 4 channels to 1 output).

Hi all! I had an awesome opportunity to go play for MinnElectro up in Minneapolis and be on their Twitch Stream. The location was a super cool spot, a sex shop! I know, I know, wild. But seriously, it was really fun just having a bunch of friends hang around and jam out to some awesome tunes for 5 hours and enjoy one another company, dance, and be in community. We need more alternative non-venue spaces, and while this was certainly an odd one, I wouldn't have missed it for the world. Huge thank you to the MinnElectro crew for bringing me up and hosting me. I love you all.

SKI is Damian Kowalczyk's organic improvised solo project redefining club music. His debut album KRE was released on Pointless Geometry in 2023, featuring mutated forms of footwork, dub, techno and bass music. And it is SKI who is the second artist invited by the owner of Outlines to the drumming groove series.

groove 17 begins with edgy, rough and jagged sounds that gradually develop into systematic repetitions that penetrate each other. The foreground is dominated by drums processed by various types of effects generated by Szymon Szwarc, aka swrcfx, with whom Damian Kowalczyk previously collaborated on the KRE album. Groove 17.1 oscillates between long improvised parts flowing smoothly into more structured moments.

The first part of Groove 17.2 is set on a seemingly chaotic tangle of sounds, but in the second segment of the recording the optics change and all the layers are laid down in favour of a looped footwork dynamic. The raw and organic sound of the drums lands right in the centre of the unleashed club machinery originating from Chicago. While in the first recording the club tradition finds an outlet in loose quotations, the groove 17.2 is a classic dancefloor killer.

Damian Kowalczyk and Szymon Szwarc took up the theme of fusion of drums and footwork in an uncompromising way, shifting the weight of composition towards intuition and improvisation. Their music takes on a raw and unpredictable character, reminiscent of the frenetic nature of competing footwork dancers.

Patch Notes: 

Setting up a voltage controlled ‘Mod Wheel’ for Akemie’s Castle using the Axon-2 with Pamela’s PRO Workout to control the level of all 8 outputs. 

The sequenced Akemie’s Castle is faded in via HPO, with heavy modulation pre-connected from all 8 outputs of the Pam PRO. Navigating to Pam’s Level page for output 1, offset 7 from the Axon-2 is assigned to control it by pressing the associated button. Using the ‘next out’ button combo (Start + turn encoder) the subsequent levels of all Pam outs are assigned to offset 7, resulting in a single depth control for the 8 CVs. Increasing the offset manually acts similarly to the ‘Mod Wheel’ control found on many synthesizers.

To take it further, CV from the MEGA MILTON’s S&H circuit (triggered by the ASQ-1 gate sequence) is then connected to Axon CV7 to randomly modulate the ‘Mod Wheel’.

"How to be Yourself” is an ode to the ever-changing, untouchable unfolding of the self and the elusive observation of it.The ensemble of tracks shapes a canvas of individual experiences, family memories and collective uncoscious that suggests - both by blending together and maintaining their own singular character - the hurdle of grasping totality. Unexpected contrasts and social emotional imaginery inputs are present throughout the whole work, depicted with a range of sonorities that goes from progressive electronics to classical, from almost orchestral to noisy shoegaze.
