~ "На втором мини-альбоме небылснаружи продолжает двигаться по территории шероховатого синти-попа и постпанка. Запись короткая и насыщенная: песни по классическим панк-рецептам, вроде “96000” и “мы”, перемежаются крошечными звуковыми упражнениями, которые можно было бы сравнить со “скитами” в хип-хопе.

“мы” — это исследование выразительных возможностей гитарного звука музыкантом, привыкшим работать в первую очередь с электронными текстурами. Отсюда любование эхом, помехами и шершавостями: гитара в “серотонине” выведена на первый план в духе аутентичного постпанка и временами заглушает сбивчивый речетатив Карины Сёминой, а “калач”, последняя дорожка, наполненная лофайными шумами, звучит как пробуждение от глубокого сна.

Все шесть с половиной треков созданы словно в промежуточном состоянии между сном и бодрствованием или сером пространстве полярной ночи. Если в “мы” зафиксировано, как говорит сам автор, переживание будних, это будни темные, холодные, состоящие из спотыканий и потерь. Есть соблазн назвать “мы” очередным переосмыслением постпанка, но приемы и уловки постпанка здесь скорее подвергаются медленной разморозке, теряя изначальный цвет и вкус, но приобретая взамен гомогенность и новую плотность." - Олена Погонченкова (bubblegum zine - t.me/bubblegumzine)

~ "On the second EP небылснаружи (beennooutside) continues to move through the territory of gritty synth-pop and post-punk. The recording is short and rich, with songs from classic punk recipes like '96000' and 'we' are punctuated with tiny sound exercises that could be compared with "skits" in hip-hop.

“We” is a study of the expressive possibilities of guitar sound by a musician who is used to working primarily with electronic textures. Hence here is the admiration for echoes, interference and roughness: the guitar in “serotonin” is brought to the fore in the spirit of authentic post-punk and at times drowns out Karina Semina’s confused recitative. “kalach”, which is the last track is filled with lo-fi noises and it sounds like awakening from a deep sleep.

All six and a half tracks are created as if in an intermediate state between sleep and wakefulness or the gray space of the polar night. If, as the author himself says, the experience of weekdays is fixed in “we”, these are dark, cold everyday life days, consisting of stumbling and losses. There is a temptation to call a track “we” an another rethinking of post-punk, but the techniques and tricks of post-punk here are rather slowly defrosted, losing their original color and taste, but instead acquiring homogeneity and new density. In 2018, Daniel Ruane has many peers in his penchant for disruptive art – for the past couple of years, everything from external socio-political turmoil to internal industry decrepitude has incensed the most recent incarnations of punks to storm the clubs and subject punters to rawer, colder, faster, harder, more percussive, more nuanced, more expressive, more eclectic and/or insanely more rhythmically complex electronic music. However, in the mastery of his craft, his attention to detail, and his flair for deviceful musicality, Daniel is very nearly peerless. RA seem to agree in the review of his 2017 collaborative EP "DualExercise_I". Indeed, it is very hard to compare Mr. Ruane to most other purveyors of what some have loathsomely baptized as "deconstructed club". However righteous their impetus, however liberating their form, the end result always tends to be a bit on the amateurish side, both from a production and composition standpoint. One can only reject norms so far until all you're left with is an impotent, petulant din. This isn't even remotely Danny's case, however – his production crisp and defined, his arrangements virtuous and infuriatingly clever at times... he rids the listener of every possible obstacle in keeping up with what is already extremely demanding, difficult music. In this (and in many aural nods across this, "Twitch", his Infinite Machine debut EP) he is reminiscent of the breakcore intelligentsia of the early 2000's: Venetian Snares, Xanopticon, Richard Devine, Keith Fullerton Whitman, etc. - countercultural artists who nonetheless rejected the cretinous abandon of their colleagues and endeavored to make extreme electronic music that brimmed with consideration and intentionality, in spite of its micro-edit density and textural abrasiveness.

"Abyzou" opens with a bass-driven, emotional crescendo that primes the listener for the oncoming sonic battery (pun intended). Following a brief cyberized start-stop intermission, he lets loose the drums. "Surface" is a fuzzy flight through a cloudscape of distorted textures and ethereal harmony, which ends with Daniel almost letting loose the drums. "hhllww", conversely, doesn't fuck about, and only momentarily contextualizes itself before, you guessed it, letting loose the drums! "Agiel" takes a detour into more of a real-world soundscape, its dotted pulse suggestive of quad-time dancehall and metallic, grid-quantized musique concrete. Finally, "Lapse Reflection", of course, LETS LOOSE THE FUCKING DRUMS (sounding like a black metal blast beat that has defected from acoustic possibility).

Direct from the Hague (via Vilnius, Lithuania) comes your new favorite darkwave artist - Caline With C. This alias was created for the reason of experimentation, as a free space for exploration of the unknown, both in the outside world and within. Emotional experience (which often works as a strong drive and motivation to the artist) and soundwave are the main focuses for Caline with C (aka Kamile), now studying Sonology in a master program.
In her own words: “I am a DJ, composer, performer, researcher and basically open to any kind of mentally, emotionally and acoustically stimulating activities. All my world turns around sound. I believe that “in the beginning, there was sound…”, therefore learning to talk and understand the language of sound has been a true delight.” This ethos comes across in the clear experimental versus intuitive approach at play on “Once in a Blue Moon”, with tracks that were recorded approximately over a period of one year. Her influences vary widely from musique concrète, industrial, bass, hip hop to dub, breakbeat, house, techno. The resultant 5 pieces move from ambient through darkwave, footwerk and bass with motifs of funky percussive house scattered throughout (courtesy of Kamile’s beloved Quasimidi Rave-o-lution 309), and is a pleasure for lovers of sonic experimentation.
