When Ploy released the 2018 club smash 'Ramos', it was clear he’d hit on a winning formula.

Like the music of his Timedance label mates Batu, Bruce, Lurka et al, this was slick, modern dance music full of know-how and technical trickery – but it was also cheeky, with an infectious energy that gave it head-turning appeal and real staying power.

Justin Aulis Long is a sonic sorcerer, urban Homeric poet, and cosmic wanderer that exists within the liminal spaces where light meets dark. Long is the offspring of a gorgon, conceived within a brick and mortar labyrinth while surrounded by the supernatural electronic voices of angelic forces.

While engaging in themes of the uncanny and erotic, Long opens thresholds which lead to psychedelic realms during communal dance gatherings. Applications of sonic alchemy during ritual action generate vibrant forces created through collective effervescence, causing a bubbling over of ecstatic energy leading to rapture. During the rite, incantations are expressed through fusing a swarm of aural fragments composed from diverse temperaments by way of a personal and singular technique.Sacred objects (records), selector’s tools (turntables and mixer), body, spirit, harmonic and discordant voices unify and become one - The Soft Machine.

During a ritual performance, phonic collages are created intuitively on sight, sigils are aurally direct with specific intent, and offerings are bestowed before an alter, all charged by an engine of chaos. Time and space unravels while normality ruptures and disintegrates as foundational structures of the status quo are dismantled through intensive executions, founded in the practices surrounding musical selection.

Meet Nikita Akimov aka Sinusoidal — a former resident of TESTFM radio, Yzeech, Blatant — who is next on our list of aspiring Eastern European artists we genuinely admire.

Sinusoidal has a flair for creating slow and moody tunes with a pinch of psychedelia, yet he manages to elevate the intensity to such a level that the end result is nothing short of a sophisticated banger. Apart from producing dancefloor heaters, Nikita is also busy crafting sound design for video games.

We discovered Sinusoidal via his first release on @pinkmanrecords back in 2020. Ever since we heard “Inner Implication”, it has remained a constant in our USBs. The same can be said about his latest album “Moral Decay” which came out earlier this year, again on Pinkman (great job, Patrick).

A new mix for our profound series was recorded by Moscow musician and sound producer Ilya Sheyman, who is also 1/2 of the psycho-electroacoustic duet @brodyachayasobaka, and co-founder of the experimental music community @altmoscow. In February, Ilya independently released the album 'broken pets'.

«50 minutes of reflections on nothing, vague songs, voices scattered in the air, young awkward drums, adult synthesizers and a whole reserve of sounds from the Red Book: creaks, blows, howls, the noise of helicopter blades and tired parquet. I tried to convey the feeling when everything around is frozen, although it is in motion.»
